Job Description

Join our growing team in Northern California as a Project Cost Accountant in our Roseville office! This role offers a unique opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders across different departments and gain exposure to high-impact projects and leadership within KPFF. You will enjoy independence and autonomy in this position while working in a stable environment with a supportive accounting team. 

This is an in-person position supporting a team of civil engineers and surveyors located in both our Roseville and San Francisco offices.

You’ll contribute to KPFF’s long-term success by ensuring accurate project cost management and supporting continuous improvement. Your initiative and ability to spot trends and patterns in data will help uncover new opportunities and improve operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

Monthly Project Cost Accounting

  • Work closely with Project Managers to review project data and monthly financial information, including managing the billing processes to meet critical deadlines.
  • Prepare client invoices and process monthly billing.
  • Become the subject matter expert in BST 11, KPFF’s ERP system, leveraging it for efficient project cost management.
  • Ensure timely invoicing and follow-up on receivables, overseeing collections efforts.
  • Monitor and reconcile project costs, diligently tracking contract and project information to identify patterns and potential issues.
  • Prepare monthly revenue recognition reports for Project Managers.

Financial & Data Review

  • Develop and provide innovative metrics to enhance project manager insights and visibility, fostering continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate accounting practices, maintaining high standards of financial integrity.

General Administrative Support

  • Provide backup coverage and support to the administrative team during general office hours, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Assist with coordinating and planning internal initiatives, including career fairs, office events, training and development committee activities, and field trips.
  • Organize and support office meetings and events—send calendar invites, manage room reservations, order food, register guests with building security, and assist with setup and post-meeting cleanup.
  • Prepare and process outgoing shipments; assist with receiving and distributing mail and packages.
  • Participate in general office upkeep and organization, helping to maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Take on other miscellaneous tasks as they arise, depending on office needs and priorities.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting or a related field
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree with a foundation in financial principles and accounting practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for data analysis and communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify opportunities for process improvement, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work well with various stakeholders, fostering positive relationships and collaboration.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while maintaining high quality.
  • Proactively solve problems by leveraging strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Maintain professionalism by handling sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • Ability to thrive independently and in teams, showcasing adaptability and initiative in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience in an engineering firm with BST11 software is a plus.

Additional Information

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Duties are typically performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table
  • Ability to actively engage with a computer for several hours per day and communicate over the telephone or virtual meeting platforms.
  • May occasionally need to lift items up to 15 lbs.
  • Work in KPFF’s Roseville office up to 5 days/week, with flexible work hours between 7 am and 5 pm

Compensation:

The base salary for this non-exempt position is competitive and based on experience, education, and qualifications. The expected range for a qualified candidate with 3+ years of experience is $62,000 to $75,000. Additionally, we offer performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. During the interview process, we'll provide detailed information and address any questions you may have about the overall compensation package and benefits.
