The Strategic Assessments, Studies, and Projects (SASP) Division of the Civil Systems Group (CSG) conducts independent programmatic assessments and strategic studies to support NASA and other civil customers in agency-level strategic decision-making for future programs and projects. We are looking for a Programmatic/Systems Engineer (Project Engineer/Sr. Project Engineer - Enterprise Systems Engineering) programmatic analyst to join the SASP team to perform independent cost/schedule and risk assessments of current and future programs for NASA and other government agencies.
Work Model
This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA, or Crystal City, VA, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3-4 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead in-depth programmatic assessments of current and future programs to assist NASA and other civil and government customers in agency-level strategic decision-making.
  • Perform cost, schedule, and risk analysis on programs throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of earned value and programmatic data to assess programmatic health and status and inform program risk posture.
  • Develop a range of analytical products including comprehensive reports on independent cost/schedule estimates, architecture studies, and technical risk assessments.
  • Execute and integrate final analysis products into comprehensive briefings for presentation to senior staff and customers.
  • Support strategic studies which may involve analysis of best practices, standards, and policies spanning across NASA directorates and other government agencies.
  • This support also includes utilizing databases, data sources, and data-driven analytical models, and developing innovative programmatic capabilities that address evolving programmatic needs.
  • Candidates should be able to work and communicate effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, react quickly to changing requirements and schedules, and provide products of consistently high quality.
  • Candidates must be able to effectively work with multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Travel may be required to support various customers.


What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for the Project Engineer- Enterprise Systems Engineering

  • Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, computer science, or a related STEM field from an accredited institution.
  • 6 or more years of increasingly responsible experience in programmatic assessments of space missions, space systems engineering, risk assessment, cost modeling and analysis, independent cost/schedule estimating, and trade space studies.
  • Knowledge of NASA missions and technologies, the NASA development lifecycle, development requirements, and guidelines.
  • Experience with developing analytical and parametric models using Excel or other programming languages.
  • Strong analytical/ problem-solving abilities and demonstrated ability to work on teams.
  • Demonstrated ability interfacing with customers and delivering comprehensive assessment products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Project Engineer- Enterprise Systems Engineering include:

  • 10 or more years of increasingly responsible experience in programmatic assessments of space missions, space systems engineering, risk assessment, cost modeling and analysis, independent cost/schedule estimating, and trade space studies.
  • Provides ongoing technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors in area of specialization.
  • Lead cross-organizational teams and organizes interfaces with customer and/or Aerospace program offices.
  • Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
