This is a grant-funded position. The Program Manager reports to the CA Area Manager and is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, and evaluation of CORE’s California Climate Action Volunteer Program. The Program Manager will work with CORE senior management to identify program goals, including implementing grant funded objectives and timelines. The Program Manager will develop and monitor program budget, supervise staff, build relationships with external partners, and deliver program reports to CORE senior management, funders, and other partners. Position expected to last up to 8 months. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee programs and activities of the California Volunteers Climate Action Grant
  • Leads and manage Climate Action Volunteer event coordination, scheduling/calendar, promotion and implementation 
  • Coordinate and implement volunteer events as needed, from prep work to event wrap, including some weekends 
  • Collaborate with marketing and logistics departments, and leaders across the organization in the administration of the program 
  • Identify growth opportunities and further efficiencies that impact Climate Action Volunteer recruitment program success and aids in development of strategy 
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and organize resources to meet program objectives; will be responsible foridentifying program participants 
  • Work with external stakeholders to maintain and further develop program growth, community outreach activities, as well as relationship building and maintenance 
  • Management of program coordinator staff
  • Responsible for developing and implementing applicable education, training, on-boarding and/or mentorship of staff 
  • Maintain staff and program compliance with organizational policies, procedures, program fiscal budgets and implementation of key milestones 
  • Ensure compliance with grant guidelines, and local, state and federal laws
  • Research, gather, organize, and summarize data for evaluating performance of program and staff 
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement procedures for data collection, management and quality control and present results and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned

Scope and Travel:

  • This position is responsible for management, training, performance reviews, and professional development of Program Coordinator Staff assigned to the California Volunteers Infrastructure Grant 
  • Travel will include local travel to program events, and inter-state travel for occasional training, conferences, and partner or co-hosted program activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with preference for BSc in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences, Climate Science, Life Sciences, Sustainability, or related field (candidates with commensurate professional experience will also be considered) 
  • Minimum 3-5 years in the field of environmental sciences, climate action/resilience, sustainability or community climate engagement or programs 
  • Minimum 2 years managing programs with direct supervisory 
  • Minimum 2 years managing or coordinating volunteers 

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with management and monitoring grant funded program budgets 
  • Demonstrated experience working with community-based organizations and volunteer engagement 
  • Volunteer recruitment and management experience is a must 
  • In-depth knowledge of the Los Angeles Metro Area, with demonstrated experience in relationship building with community and faith-based organizations, student groups, unions, and/or other civic institutions 
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations 
  • Knowledge and experience in sustainable urban landscaping practices and implementation a plus

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • Work proactively with little supervision 
  • Flexible and adaptive to a frequently changing environment 
  • Strong project management, leadership and organizational skills
  • Close attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Bilingual a plus (Spanish or Mandarin preferred)
