About the Role

We're seeking a Product Manager (technical) to help build and scale the operations our new Specialty Commercial insurance platform from the ground up. In this role, you'll own key elements of the e2e value chain, and work closely with our engineering, underwriting and other business teams, translating operational needs into technical & process solutions. You'll design scalable workflows, establish and own quality metrics, and drive continuous improvement of operations. 

As a Product Manager, you'll have significant influence over our operational strategy and related technology roadmap. The ideal candidate has a T-shaped skillset: meaningful expertise in operations (prioritizing candidates from the insurance industry), complemented by relevant experience in process design, technology implementation, and a UX product mindset. A strong bias for action and an ability to drive clarity when faced with ambiguity are essential.

Core Responsibilities

System & Process Design

  • Design and implement foundational operational workflows for Small Commercial E&S products from submission to policy issuance
  • Create and maintain comprehensive SOPs, focusing on scalability from day one
  • Develop quality assurance frameworks to maintain operational excellence as volume grows
  • Collaboratively build operational playbooks that can scale with the business

Product & Technology

  • Act as the operational product owner, representing underwriting needs to the engineering team
  • Translate insurance operations pain points into clear technical specifications
  • Drive product roadmap for operational efficiency improvements
  • Lead UAT efforts for new features and system enhancements
  • Balance quick wins with long-term architectural needs
  • Gather and synthesize insurance operations feedback to inform product decisions

Reporting & Analytics

  • Establish baseline operational metrics and KPIs
  • Design reporting frameworks to track operational effectiveness
  • Create feedback loops between operations and product development
  • Monitor and analyze operational trends to inform process improvements

Operational Excellence

  • Collaborate with underwriting team to optimize workflow efficiency
  • Define operational success criteria for new product launches
  • Identify and document operational requirements for underwriting tools
  • Support development of automated underwriting rules and validation

Vendor Management

  • Manage integration of third-party services into operational workflows
  • Monitor vendor performance against operational requirements
  • Document vendor-related processes and procedures
  • Identify opportunities to optimize vendor utilization

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical product management experience, ideally within the insurance industry
  • Proven track record implementing or optimizing insurance processing systems 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ownership mentality
  • Experience translating operational requirements into solutions (technical and non technical) 
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to define and track operational metrics 
  • Experience building scalable processes and documentation 
  • Track record of successful cross-functional project delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive consensus across stakeholder groups
