Summary
GeneDx is seeking a Product Owner to drive strategic and day-to-day execution across multiple internal systems—spanning the Laboratory Information System (LIS), data-capture/abstraction platforms, and accessioning workflows. Your goal is to streamline how data is collected, validated, and processed, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-quality outcomes throughout the testing lifecycle.
This is a rare opportunity to shape how data is captured, validated, and used across our internal platforms—treating each stage in the testing lifecycle not simply as a transaction, but as a critical enabler of deeper understanding, operational excellence, and innovation. This role is for someone who sees these internal systems not as endpoints, but as catalysts for insight, timely action, and long-term impact.
Job Responsibilities
- Own and prioritize product backlogs for LIS, data-capture, abstraction, accessioning, and accession-check workflows, ensuring alignment with company goals, compliance requirements, and user needs
- Lead cross-functional discovery to surface and prioritize user needs across Lab Ops, Clinical teams, Data Engineering, QA/Regulatory, Finance, and Customer Service
- Partner with Product Design/UX, Engineering, Medical Affairs, Compliance, and Client Services to create workflows and interfaces that are clinically accurate, user-friendly, and audit-ready
- Act as the internal expert on how samples, data, and documents move through manual and automated paths—across test types, payor flows, and downstream systems (LIMS, CRM, billing)
- Collaborate with Engineering to build dynamic, context-sensitive tools (e.g., pre-populated accession screens, AI-assisted abstraction, automated data validations)
- Produce deliverables such as PRDs, annotated wireframes, data-flow diagrams, UAT scripts, KPI dashboards, and content review logs
- Own user-story writing, backlog grooming, and sprint planning; run stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives to keep teams aligned and blockers removed
- Define and monitor KPIs such as:
- accession turnaround
- documentation completeness
- abstraction throughput/accuracy
- error rates

- Strong understanding of how user-centered design principles apply to both physical and digital artifacts
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including Product Design/UX, Marketing, Commercial, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Engineering
- Familiarity with diagnostics, lab workflows, documentation requirements, and/or healthcare communication is a strong plus
- Demonstrated ability to think like a systems designer—mapping flows across multiple user types, channels, and points in the journey
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills paired with excellent execution and attention to detail
- Familiarity with agile methodologies, digital transformation, human-centered design, and modern product discovery/delivery practices
- A sense of ownership, humility, and mission-driven motivation to improve lives through better healthcare

With over 20 years of expertise in diagnosing rare disorders and diseases, and pioneering work in the identification of new disease-causing genes, our commitment to genetic disease detection, discovery, and diagnosis is based on sound science and is focused on enhancing patient care.
Experts in what matters most.
With hundreds of genetic counselors, MD/PhD scientists, and clinical and molecular genomics specialists on staff, we are the industry’s genetic testing experts and proud of it. We share the same goal as healthcare providers, patients, and families: to provide clear, accurate, and meaningful answers we all can trust.
SEQUENCING HAS THE POWER TO SOLVE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES.
From sequencing to reporting and beyond, our technical and clinical experts are providing guidance every step of the way:
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
- High-quality testing: Our laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and most of our tests are also New York State approved.
- Advanced detection: By interrogating genes for complex variants, we can identify the underlying causes of conditions that may otherwise be missed.
CLINICAL EXPERTISE
- Thorough analysis: We classify variants according to our custom adaptation of the most recent guidelines. We then leverage our rich internal database for additional interpretation evidence.
- Customized care: Our experts review all test results and write reports in a clear, concise, and personalized way. We also include information for research studies in specific clinical situations.
- Impactful discovery: Our researchers continue working to find answers even after testing is complete. Through both internal research efforts and global collaborations, we have identified and published hundreds of new disease-gene relationships and developed novel tools for genomic data analysis. These efforts ultimately deliver more diagnostic findings to individuals.
