You lead a team of procurement specialists for a specific business unit or region and serve as the single point of contact in procurement for local business leaders. In this role, you also manage interactions between business units or spend areas and stakeholders at the local level, collaborate with global/regional spend areas, business unit leads and across manufacturing, supply chain and commercial business stakeholders, and ensure the local implementation of regional or global projects.
How you will contribute
As the single point of contact, you will support the interactions between business units or spend areas, business unit stakeholders and specific project teams. In addition, you will deliver on the procurement process through effective management of procurement specialists; take the lead in problem solving for supply and service issues, own the full sourcing activity for a local spend in partnership with regional sourcing teams, ensure regulatory compliance for all processes in scope, and manage local implementation-including service delivery, productivity and cash mobilization-of regional or global projects and agreements.

More about this role
What you need to know about this position:
This role is based in Gqeberha and stakeholder-faced with interactions with all plant stakeholders daily. The Procurement lead will also be part of the Plant Leadership Team, liaising with all stakeholders and supporting the Plant director accordingly.
The role has 2 direct reports who are also based in Gqeberha (Raw material and Packaging Specialist), and the scope of the role is SACEA markets ( South Africa and Swaziland), this role reports to the Procurement Director for Sub-Sharan Africa.
This role is both operational managing the day to day activities at plant level in making sure we have all the materials on site on time. The role is also strategic in working with all category leads by providing market intelligence information and educating about the micro and macro challenges faced on the ground, coming up with the right strategy which fits the market.

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Supply Chain Management/Procurement certification/ CIPS advantageous
  • At least 8 years procurement experience
  • At least 3 years' experience leading procurement teams with a proven track record of delivering leadership outcomes.
  • Experience in manufacturing - FMCG preferably
  • Valid SA driver's License
  • Valid Passport [At the time of start date] - International Travel
  • Computer Literacy Proficiency - Proficient with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

  • Financial Metrics - COGS Productivity, Cash & Comm/Fx and Non-COGS Productivity impacting SACEA
  • Cluster P&L understanding.
  • Supplier Performance and Development - Enhancing metrics on OTIF, building, and executing robust.
  • BCP to drive sustained growth (effective use of SLEA). Mapping and developing adequate supplier.
  • Capacities with efficient geographical network. Focus on localization to optimize imports. Scope
  • includes Internal and External Manufacturing/co-packing within cluster.
  • Market Intelligence - Generation and analysis of market data for local commodities, to facilitate.

  • Quality and Food Safety - Ensuring adherence to MDLZ internal standards and compliance to external.

  • Partnering closely with the QFS team

  • Process Excellence - Partnering the global Procurement Capability function to implement new age.
  • technologies locally, including training and tool adoption. Delivery of best-in-class Source-to-Pay (STP)
  • process metrics. Adherence to the Global Procurement policy (GPP), Contract excellence with good audit results. Focus on sensitive areas ion, assessment, and closure of control gaps.
  • People and Engagement - Enabling wider organizational programmes around engagement and careers, providing coaching and relevant exposure to colleagues as needed.


Job specific requirements:

  • Domain expert in procurement - Exposure to strategic sourcing, operations, financial planning/budgeting, and capability.
  • Proven track record in relevant study in business economic environment, administration or relevant combination of formal qualifications and added specialized study (master's degree is a plus)
  • Ability to navigate a dynamic, fast paced, matrix and multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience in supplier negotiations and developing/executing sourcing strategies.
  • More than 5years of Procurement practitioner experience, broad background across different business functions
  • At least 7 years Managerial experience (3 of which must be in managing teams in Procurement)
  • Good people Management and Skills Development
