The Principal Technical Writer helps guide the strategy and vision for our mission to provide a best-in-class user experience through clear, concise, and innovative technical communication. This expert-level role shapes everything from information architecture to content standards across our deliverables. The Principal Technical Writer guides high-performing documentation teams, leads initiatives, and ensures that our technical communication aligns to product and user needs. Through individual, hands-on investigation and collaborative work, the Principal Technical Writer gains a detailed, highly technical understanding of nCino products, and uses that knowledge to write technical documentation.


 

Responsibilities

  • Expert understanding of technical documentation, technical aspects of company products, and excellent writing/communication skills
  • Viewed as highly experienced technical communicator internally within nCino
  • Responsible for high-level planning, organizing, writing, and editing of operational, testing, or SME topical procedure manuals
  • Completes high-level content generation and drafting of release procedures for current nCino products
  • Researches advanced technical design specifications with functional SMEs and translates technical information into manuals and documents for nontechnical and technical users
  • Identifies new documentation technologies and methodologies
  • Applies product technical writing strategies and concepts using specialized knowledge and developed business expertise
  • Provides guidance, direction, and instruction to less-experienced team members and colleagues

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Professional Writing, English or a related field with 8+ years of related experience  or combination of experience and education
  • Professional portfolio showcasing complex technical writing projects
  • Experience with both content management systems (CMS) and content deliver platforms (CDP)
  • Proficient at building, managing, and mentoring documentation teams
  • Effective at leading and executing documentation strategy and planning
  • Proficient at determining documentation needs, setting priorities, and allocating resources
  • Proficient using customer interactions to shape documentation requirements
  • Effective at coaching less-experienced team members
  • Advanced understanding of API documentation, developer portals, or developer relations
  • Ability to advise management on documentation best practices
  • Advanced understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Advanced understanding of information architecture, content strategy, and user research
  • Advanced understanding of documentation analytics

Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Technical Communication, Writing or related field with 6+ years of technical writing experience
  • Understanding of UI/UX design principles
  • Advanced knowledge of Salesforce
  • Well-versed in the SDLC, Agile methodologies, and advanced scrum team experience
  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

The pay range for this role is based on relative market data and alignment with our compensation philosophy. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum of the pay range for each job posting, which is used to determine new hire rates/salaries and takes into consideration multiple factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, abilities, proficiencies, experience, education, licensures/certifications, as well as business and organizational needs. nCino reserves the right to modify the posted range consistent with our internal practices and external market movement. The recruiter for this job posting can share more compensation details during the recruitment process, as base salary is only one component of the total compensation package per position posted.

The base salary range for this job is:

$95,600.00 - $162,500.00
