In this exciting role as Principal Statistician - Diabetes Product Innovation, you will have responsibility for supporting Diabetes engineering teams in transforming the way we use data by applying your expertise in statistics, especially in Industrial statistics, and advanced analytics for process and product improvement and enabling our organization to make data-driven decisions.

The preference is for this to be a hybrid office position at our Northridge, CA, location.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops and/or applies statistical methods, software, and theories in industrial statistics.
  • Utilizes complex statistical modeling to solve business problems and product development challenges.
  • Interprets and applies data in complex analyses and explains findings to cross-functional audiences to improve innovation and sustain efforts.
  • Writes procedures for quality systems tasks that have statistical requirements (for example, test method validation, design verification, process validation)
  • Participates in reviewing, developing, and presenting statistics training material. 
  • Supports standard statistical tools in the Diabetes business (for example, Minitab)
  • Maintains proficiency in statistical techniques, programming, and data management best practices.
  • Participates in the Global Industrial Statistics Community of Practice, supporting alignment on standards and expectations across the company.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable procedures to ensure quality system compliance and high-quality work.
  • Understand the various regulations we operate under in the medical device industry and ensure that the statistical methods applied align with regulatory bodies' expectations. 

Must Have (Minimum Requirements):

To be considered for this role, the minimum requirement must be evident on your resume.

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have:

  • MS or PhD degree in Statistics or equivalent
  • Extensive and recent experience in the following:
    • Statistical software:  SAS and/or R
    • Statistical methods (in particular:  design of experiments, acceptance sampling, statistical process control, measurement systems analysis, reliability analysis, ANOVA, and regression)
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate (written and verbal) technical content.
  • Experience as a Statistician or Biostatistician at Medtronic or other medical device company, or highly regulated industries.
  • Experience with Test Method Validation, Design Verification, Risk Assessment, Design Verification, and/or Process Validation
  • Medical device domain knowledge Experience with Diabetes therapies/products
  • Experience in regulatory compliance guidelines for medical devices (e.g. ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$139,200.00 - $208,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
