The integration and test efforts associated with naval electronic system design are critical to the deployment of capable vessels in the service of our Navy and Coast Guard. Northrop Grumman Maritime Systems Integration and Ship Services business area is seeking a Principal / Sr Principal Test Conductor to support shipboard Integration and Test activities associated with Large Deck Amphibious Assault Ships. As a Principal / Sr Principal Test Conductor you will identify prioritize and resolve integration and test issues discovered during shipboard Integration & Test activities. These efforts are performed during ship’s construction at Huntington-Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS and will include builder and acceptance trials.
The candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. The selected candidate will utilize test conducting practices to provide technical support during equipment installation, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting and testing. The candidate will routinely review test procedures, prepare test problem reports and validate system test results. Candidate must have clear verbal and written communication skills to effectively interface with shipyard staff and government representatives to include SUPSHIP and ISEA representatives. Additional activities may entail off-site integration & test efforts involving short periods of travel.
Essential Functions:
- Execute government authored performance test and perform system alignments.
- Read and interrupt engineering drawings, ship specifications, schematics, and contract drawings.
- Differentiate between hardware, interface, and software problems.
- Proficient with an array of test equipment to include but not limited to the following equipment: power meters, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, oscilloscopes and network analyzers.
- Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at testing progress meetings.
- Applies extensive technical expertise in the resolution of system and interface failures.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Familiarity with shipboard power distribution, grounding and synchro distribution.
- Physically conditioned to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, and manage heights using safety harness.
Basic Qualifications:
- The basic qualifications for the Principal Test Conductor are a bachelor's degree with 5 years professional/military experience to include a background in shipboard integration and test OR Master's Degree with 3 years professional/military experience to include a background in shipboard integration and test: an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with engineers and management from multiple disciplines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Must adhere to Program security requirements while performing work
- US Citizenship is required with an active Secret Security Clearance
Basic Qualifications:
- The basic qualifications for the Sr Principal Test Conductor are a bachelor's degree with 9 years professional/military experience to include a background in shipboard integration and test OR Master's Degree with 7 years professional/military experience to include a background in shipboard integration and test an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with engineers and management from multiple disciplines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Must adhere to Program security requirements while performing work
- US Citizenship is required with an active Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical (or any sub-discipline)
- Applied knowledge of shipboard electronic system design and operation
- Experience in the military naval development and integration environment is preferred
- Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to interface with all levels of the workforce and management.
- Perform work with no appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
- Knowledge of shipboard command and control systems and their interfaces including Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC), Common Data Link Management System (CDLMS), radars, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems, HF, UHF, VHF Radio shipboard communication systems, electronic warfare systems, navigation systems, and weapons systems
- Familiarity with Solaris, VxWorks, Linux, and UNIX commands and configuration.
- General knowledge of Combat Systems Operational Sequencing System procedures, establishment of datalinks, shipboard preventive maintenance procedures, and shipboard man aloft and tagout procedures
- AutoCAD or similar CAD experience
Salary Range: $84,200.00 - $126,400.00Salary Range 2: $104,400.00 - $156,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
