Position Description:
Implements Test-Driven Development (TDD) and unit testing using frameworks. Builds and deploys REST Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) using Java and Springboot. Develops SOAP and REST Web Services, using Java/J2EE, JAX-WS, CXF, and Spring-WS. Builds, stores, and manages data using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and data quality tools. Implements Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) practices using tools such as Jenkins and Maven. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Participates in architecture design teams.
- Defines and implements application level architecture.
- Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
- Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
- Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
- Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
- Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
- Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
- Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
- Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
- Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
- Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives
- Advises senior management on technical strategy.
- Mentors junior team members.
- Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
- Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, implementing and supporting software solutions that address complex business problems using distributed and cloud technologies.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, implementing and supporting software solutions that address complex business problems using distributed and cloud technologies.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
- Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing, developing, and implementing software solutions based on RESTful Web services architecture, using Spring framework to service application clients for various document format including AFP (Advanced Function Print), from archival systems -- ViewDirect, DB2, Object Storage, and Oracle Database.
- DE developing applications using Java/Spring framework that leverages classical Model View Controller Layer (MVC) architecture; and designing and developing Object model and Spring Batch implementation for back-end services in an application; developing and enhancing applications using SOAP architecture and WebSphere Application Server; analyzing code quality analysis tools -- sonar and Veracode.
- DE building and deploying distributed financial archival application pipelines using JenkinsCore, Terraform, GitHub, Artifactory, Maven and deploy to AWS Cloud/Rancher; Migrating and developing Java based EKS applications in AWS using SQS, S3, OIDC provider.
- DE diagnosing and debugging distributed applications issues by analyzing Datadog/Splunk logs, using IBM Java Memory Analyzer and HeapAnalyzer; analyzing application crash dumps; and providing on-call support for the application and resolving issues in real-time.
