Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our VMware by Broadcom Telco Cloud Platform team in VCF division. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of critical features of VMware’s Telco Cloud offerings, including scale, performance and security aspects. The ideal candidate for this role will have the technical chops to command the respect of a team of highly skilled developers, while at the same time, the communication capabilities to evangelize and co-opt all the other teams in the company (and their leads) that are impacted and need to integrate with our designs. This ideal candidate will have the technical depth and breadth to understand the various complex systems that our designs interact with, and will utilize this background to propose, lead and execute on innovative solutions for these complex problems.

Responsibilities:

• Define innovative new features for the telco domain with VCF solution.
• Play a key role in technical discussions, architectural decisions and problem-solving exercises.
• Represent the team in internal and external forums to evangelize and defend the product architecture, so that other teams see the benefits and sign up to do the integration.
• Interact with engineering leadership from different teams to understand their needs and concerns, and work through issues that get raised in such interactions.
• Hands-on contributions towards the design and implementation of key elements of the product.
• Work with other functions within the Company (such as Product Management, Technical Marketing, Documentation etc.) to convert customer/market requirements into viable product solutions
• Mentor the team’s other members on design/coding and help grow their technical careers

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 10+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience. 
• Currently working in a senior technical leadership role (such as Staff or Senior Engineer)
• Must have a broad technical background in client-server technologies, with good understanding of the full software stack and programming background at the systems level.
• Programming experience with Java, golang or similar languages
• A good understanding of Networking and Storage fundamentals
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, relational databases, algorithms, data structures and object-oriented concepts
• Experience with containerization and cloud-native micro service architecture.
• Familiarity with cloud security and virtualization security.
• Understanding of continuous integration and release processes 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to seamlessly interact with technical as well as non-technical audiences
• Working experience in an agile product development environment and working with agile teams
