As a Lead Engineer on TIBCO BusinessConnect team, you will architect, design, and implement secure, scalable backend systems. You will optimize system performance, ensuring high availability and low-latency processing for large transaction volumes while troubleshooting production issues. Collaborating with architects, developers, and stakeholders, you will align solutions with technical goals, mentor junior engineers, and maintain high-quality code through reviews, technical deep dives, and detailed documentation.

The ideal candidate is a backend engineering expert with deep knowledge of Java, distributed systems, and modern cloud-native technologies. As an individual contributor, you will provide hands-on leadership and be instrumental in solving the most challenging technical problems.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of BusinessConnect features for both on-premise and  containerized environments.

  • Act as an escalation point for critical production issues. 

  • Guide the adoption of modern DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD, continuous testing/security, and continuous monitoring/observability.  

  • Design and develop REST-based microservices and API contracts using Spring Boot and Hibernate.

  • Design and implement solutions to address recurring issues and improve system stability.  

  • Implement/update industry-standard specifications for transport and document exchange protocols.  

  • Monitor and optimize endurance and performance metrics, collaborating with teams to benchmark and improve application performance.  

  • Design the overall architecture for Java-based applications, including front-end, back-end, and database layers.  

  • Guide teams on coding standards, architectural principles, and technical best practices. Mentor and support junior developers.  

  • Actively participate in coding, debugging, code reviews, and developing complex modules while ensuring adherence to coding standards, design principles, and best practices.

  • Apply knowledge of industry-standard software best practices, development lifecycle processes, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.  

  • Estimate tasks effectively while identifying and mitigating potential risks.  

  • Meet regularly with stakeholders to understand business requirements and implement them into core platform services.

Requirements:

Technical Skills

   - 10+ years of experience as a backend software engineer, with a proven track record of designing and building complex backend systems.  

   - Strong expertise in Java (8 or above), including multithreading, concurrency, and functional programming.  

   - Deep understanding of J2EE, Hibernate, Spring Boot, Spring Security or similar frameworks for building microservices.  

   - Experience with distributed systems, including message brokers (EMS or any JMS implementation), caching (Redis), and databases (SQL and NoSQL).  

   - Proficiency in designing RESTful APIs.

   - Experience on building unit and integration tests(Junit, Mockito and Spring Tests).

   - Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).  

   - Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).  

   - Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or TeamCity.

   - Experience with SVN, Git, Sonar.

   - Exposure to performance optimization, profiling, and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).

   - Experience with security, authentication, and authorization protocols (OAuth2, OpenID Connect).

   - Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, Algorithms and Data structures is required.

   - Demonstrated experience in writing clean code in large codebases is required.

   - Solid understanding of cryptography (symmetric/asymmetric encryption, hashing, digital signatures, key management), security protocols

    (TLS/SSL,  HTTPS, OAuth2, JWT), and experience with cryptographic libraries like Bouncy Castle, JCA, and JSSE.

   - Experience in B2B communication protocols such as EDI, AS2, RosettaNet, and ebXML.(Optional)

   - Experience with High and Low level System Design.
 

Architectural Experience

   - Expertise in designing high-availability, fault-tolerant systems and distributed architectures.  

   - Experience with event-driven architectures and technologies.

Soft Skills

   - Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.  

   - Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.  

   - Proven ability to work independently while influencing and mentoring other engineers.  

   - A proactive mindset with the ability to make architecture decisions and align teams toward a technical vision.  

Education

   - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.  

   - Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Architect) are a plus.

Compensation may vary depending on your location, qualifications including job-related education, training, experience, licensure, and certification, that could result at a level outside of these ranges. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus, and sales incentives depending on the terms of the applicable plan and role as well as individual performance.

NYC generally ranges: $175,711-$263,567
CA generally ranges: $183,351-$275,027
All other locations fall under our General State range: $152,793-$229,189
