Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal Software Developer to join our team at Autodesk Research. This role focuses on advancing computer graphics pipelines specifically tailored for the AI era within our Entertainment & Media Solutions (EMS). The ideal candidate will have a robust background in computer graphics, API integration, and modern cloud compute infrastructure, coupled with strong coding skills, particularly in Python and data processing. This position is essential for driving innovation and efficiency in our gaming, animation, and VFX projects.
Responsibilities

Integrate and optimize APIs for Maya and other Digital Content Creation (DCC) tools

Leverage DCCs in pipelines for gaming, animation, and VFX projects.

Collaborate with artists to develop advanced methods to create and process data for machine learning

Create scripts and solutions to facilitate automation and efficient data processing

Ensure systems are optimized for cloud compute infrastructure.

Work within project requirements to develop systems that align with the overall vision

Assist in data acquisition and processing projects

Debug and optimize technical issues in graphics pipelines and models
-
Stay updated with evolving trends and techniques in computer graphics
-
Leverage creative and analytical skills to push the boundaries of pipeline efficiency

Communicate effectively with artistic and research teams to ensure successful integration of systems into projects
Minimum Qualifications
-
8+ years of experience in film, TV, or game production, working closely with modelers, effects technical directors, riggers and animators
-
Deep experience in designing, maintaining and evolving computer graphics pipelines
-
Strong understanding of procedural principles, style languages, and complexity.

Proven ability to work within cross-functional teams on productions and projects.

Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for breaking down complex tasks
Preferred Qualifications

Up-to-date expertise in computer graphics best practices, production pipelines, and human-centered design

Expert in API of Maya and Bifrost

Knowledge of best practices for checkpointing and regenerating work reliably

Strong programming skills to manage artifact creation and management

Competence with modern cloud compute infrastructure

Passion for innovation and improving production processes
The Ideal Candidate

Has worked in the film, TV, or game production industries as a Procedural Artist or Technical Director with hands-on experience in modern 3D procedural production

Demonstrates a strong understanding of data requirements for ML pipelines.

Has a passion for adopting new technologies and techniques to enhance procedural workflows

Strong desire to advance the production process for a re-imagined entertainment industry

Salary transparency
Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For Canada-BC based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $131,500 and $180,840. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
