The Position

Roche Diagnostics Solutions, Molecular Point of Care Assay & System Development Chapter focuses on developing and advancing molecular diagnostic tests and systems for point-of-care applications, aiming for rapid, accurate, and accessible diagnostics. 

The Principal Scientist will join the molecular point of care development team to help advance develop and improve mPOC technologies for various applications, including infectious disease diagnosis, oncology, and other areas. 

  • You will conceive, plan and conduct advanced independent Research/Development experiments from project inception through product launch and field support, define project milestones and apply advanced scientific knowledge to complete projects. 

  • You will design experiments to test hypotheses related to project outcomes, and analyze and interpret data/results; recommending new or creative approaches, and/or expansion or curtailment of investigations based on experimental data or new scientific information arising from area of responsibility. 

  • You will participate in project planning, process updates, and experimental design; Assume responsibility for timely completion of projects, ensuring activities are consistent with project critical path and responding appropriately to changing priorities. You will ensure technical activities under delegated supervision are conducted within internal and external guidelines and regulations. Interacts with other departments to further project goals.

  • You will accurately and consistently record experimental methods, materials and results in electronic laboratory notebooks; Analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions, and determine future experiments. You will apply advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents; prepares summaries, internal reports, presentations, manuscripts, etc

  • You will present findings or comprehensive project status reviews at internal seminars/meetings.

  • You will serve as an expert resource to other departments (e.g., Manufacturing/Operations, Quality, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Studies, and International Technical Services), provide timely response and follow-ups ;and participate in the expeditious transfer of products and technologies by providing scientific knowledge and assistance.

  • You will provide technical advice/guidance to junior scientific staff, and serve as a role model.

  • You will work on diverse problems requiring significant analysis and evaluation of intangible variables; may refer to established precedents and policies.

  • You will interact with senior personnel from other departments or Roche companies on significant matters often requiring coordination between departments/organizations; you may lead project teams to solve business problems of moderate size, risk and complexity.

  • You will perform other duties as assigned by management.
     

Who You Are:

(Required)

  • You have a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field with 6+ yrs of relevant industry experience; or a PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field with 3+ years of relevant industry experience

  • You have 3+ years of experience in molecular IVD product development throughout the product life cycle including early development, assay and reagent optimization, verification and validation, design transfer, and regulatory submission support.

  • You have demonstrated expertise in analytical thinking and problem-solving.

  • You have demonstrated interpersonal skills and are able to seamlessly collaborate with team members and cross-functional collaborators

  • You have excellent verbal and written interpersonal/communication skills
     

Preferred:

  • You have experience developing PCR assays for infectious diseases using a range of human samples types 

  • You have experience working on Point of Care platforms and assays. 

  • You have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple changing projects and priorities; you complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner
     

This position is based on-site in Pleasanton, CA

Relocation benefits are not being offered for this position.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pleasanton, CA is $108,000 - $202,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
