Treeline Biosciences was founded by an experienced team of biopharmaceutical scientists and executives committed to developing new medicines against compelling molecular targets in oncology that have proven difficult to drug. We are pursuing a uniquely integrated approach that applies emerging scientific tools and a commitment to building our lead discovery and computational design infrastructure. As a senior member of the Protein Sciences team, you will play an integral role supporting early-stage discovery programs by collaborating closely with a cross-functional team of scientists to impact small molecule drug discovery. In this role, you will lead a group of protein scientists at our San Diego site and play a critical role to support early-stage drug discovery. Specifically, you will impact the target enabling strategy and design and implement gene-to-protein workflows to deliver high-quality protein for use in SAR enabling assays and structural biology efforts. You and your team will work closely and collaborate with all lead discovery functions. As an integral part of project teams, you will drive lead discovery efforts by interpreting and integrating diverse data.
Responsibilities
- Effectively manage a team of up to 4 protein scientists.
- Establish and implement strategies for enabling multiple protein targets.
- Design, express, and purify protein targets to support structural biology and small molecule drug discovery efforts.
- Perform functional and biophysical characterization of proteins using novel and established technical methods.
- Lead and set the strategy for target enablement efforts.
- Collaborate with protein sciences at our East Coast Office and across lead discovery, medicine design, and medicinal chemistry teams to efficiently drive projects forward.
- Interpret and integrate biochemical, biophysical and structural data to drive project decisions.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology or related discipline with 2-3 years of relevant postdoctoral training.
- Relevant industry experience is a requirement for this role: 7+ years (Principal Scientist) or 10+ years (Associate Director) of relevant experience in biotech/pharma industry with a track record of producing difficult proteins for small molecule drug discovery projects and interpreting diverse data to drive SAR.
- A strong track record for people management is a requirement for this role: Experience and track record for managing PhD level scientists.
- Strong candidates will have a track record working with challenging protein targets and/or multi-protein complexes to enable assay development, structural biology and hit finding.
- Proven hands-on experience with multiple expression platforms (e.g., bacteria, insect cell, mammalian cell) and proficiency with AKTA instrumentation and a broad range of standard and unique purification and protein QC techniques are required.
- Previous experience in small molecule drug discovery, specifically biochemical/biophysical assay development and characterization of small molecule inhibitors and protein-ligand binding interactions.
- Strong candidates will have a track record integrating biochemical, biophysical and structural data to drive SAR and advance small molecule discovery from hit-finding to hit to lead stage.
- Experience in a wide array of biochemical/biophysical assays, both enzymatic and binding, such as FP, TR-FRET, AlphaScreen, DSF, SPR, ITC is a plus.
- Candidates must possess excellent collaborative skills, demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills, and work effectively under deadlines.
- This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to report and present data to colleagues and senior leadership.
This position is classified as exempt. The anticipated annual base salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $165,626 to $188,792. The final base salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the job, education, and other factors.
