STR Harnesses the power of technology to solve the nation's hardest problems.
The Role
Seeking a Principal Integration and Test Engineer to lead the implementation and verification of electrical and electro-mechanical systems, with a focus on Radar systems. Responsibilities include integration, test, and debugging of electronic systems.
Summary Generated by Built In

The Systems Development Division (SDD) delivers technology advantage into users’ hands, from space to sub-surface. Our programs deliver sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes.  SDD considers the entire lifecycle of the solution, from conceptualization and architecting, through development, to deployment, while leveraging novel technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems.  Current efforts include programs for airborne and space RF, undersea systems focused on both passive and active applications, and advanced testing enabled by multi-function, multi-modal capabilities.

SDD is seeking a Principal Integration and Test engineer to lead the implementation and verification of electrical and electro-mechanical systems, typically but not exclusively focused on multi-function Radar systems. You will collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams spread across multiple STR campuses, groups, divisions, and with industry partners to understand customer objectives, to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to complex and challenging national security problems. Your areas of specific focus will include integration, test, and debug of electronic and electro-mechanical systems implementing radar, communications, and EW/RF convergence.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and expertise in areas such as: systems engineering, hardware design and development, and test & evaluation. This position requires skills in working with multi-disciplinary teams, managing system design, development, and test programs, as well as technical proficiency in relevant technologies. Strong interpersonal, communication, technical, and peer-leadership skills are also required.  Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, detail oriented and have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team through strong written and verbal communication skills.  You will be joining a dynamic team working across multiple disciplines with opportunities to further expand your knowledge and grow your career.

What you will do:

  • Applying core technical skillset, critical thinking, and analytical skills to multiple domains effectively and working across disciplines to solve problems in innovative ways
  • Researching, understanding, and implementing new technical solutions related to RF sensing, communications, and EW
  • Lead Integration and test activities on complex systems.  This may include leading teams, supporting field tests, integrating hardware/software on platforms at customer sites, and direct customer interaction
  • Working with technical development teams to integrate and evaluate system designs, debug performance issues, identify and recommend solutions, and implement as necessary
  • Developing comprehensive test plans, and associated test infrastructure, to ensure solutions meet customer expectations
  • Identifying new technical approaches (related to system design and/or test capabilities) and working with leadership to create/refine technology/product roadmaps
  • Effectively using tools to create, evaluate, and document solutions and clearly communicate the solution to the team, STR management and customers
  • Identifying clear technical problems to solve based on complex, multi-disciplinary program objectives, and effectively allocate technical problem-solving responsibilities to a multi-disciplinary team and oversee their execution
  • Ensuring appropriate level of rigor is applied to achieve systems the meet customer needs.  Identifying new techniques or refinements to drive continuous improvement culture

Who you are:

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government
  • Understanding and direct experience in the integration and test of hardware and software systems as related to electro and electro-mechanical systems (for example: Radar systems, communication systems, EW systems)
  • Understanding of the principles of design, development, requirements verification, test planning, test execution, data analysis, and operations support as related to the systems mentioned above
  • Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art solutions and incorporate them to current problem sets
  • Experience in preparing and delivering high-level briefings to Customers and senior management.  Interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end solution
  • Capable of effectively working in a team environment, often under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated desire to successfully pursue new challenges, improve and broaden technical skills, seek greater responsibilities, and increase individual value to the organization
  • Familiarity with the execution of technical reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS)
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and delivery of advanced development projects
  • Background should include a Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of applicable experience; Master’s degree and at least 8 years of applicable experience; or PhD and at least 5 years of applicable experience. Equivalent experience will be considered
  • Experience mentoring and providing career development direction to junior engineers

Nice to haves:
