Reporting to the Managing Director (MD), HOOPP Capital Partners, the Principal will be responsible for identifying and evaluating venture capital and growth equity investment opportunities as well as making fund commitments and executing transactions within these strategies. The individual should have proven experience and capabilities to effectively invest in venture capital and growth equity as part of a larger team, HOOPP Capital Partners (“HCP”), which also invests in private equity and private credit. In this role, the incumbent will work on initiatives with teams across the Investment Management (IM) division as well as with partners across the organization including legal and accounting professionals. The individual will collaborate regularly with HOOPP’s AI Lab. In additional to internal partners, they will have partnerships with external parties including intermediaries, consultants, funds, company boards and management. The incumbent will have a solid foundation of venture capital and growth equity experience and a passion to contribute to the continued advancement of HOOPP.
What you will do
- In collaboration with the HCP senior team, shape the venture capital funds and direct investment strategy as it evolves over time.
- Participate in execution of fund commitments, including the management of key diligence streams, preparing investment memo materials, and negotiating fund documents.
- Participate in all aspects of a deal from origination, identifying key drivers of risk, due diligence, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis, recommending investments, structuring, negotiating terms, executing investment recommendations, to asset and portfolio management and exit.
- Maintain a robust pipeline and remain actively involved in the market through underwriting of relevant opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal investments teams, operational, legal and tax teams to execute transactions.
- Manage investment relationships and direct venture investments and co-investments throughout their lifecycle.
- Stay abreast of investment, operational, legal, tax, and risk developments relating to General Partner Fund managers.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of real-time developments in venture capital and stay abreast of the changing regulatory and technology environment.Establish position as a recognized internal subject matter expert in venture capital.
- Play a leadership role as part of a lean team, acting as a mentor for junior team members.
- Contribute to overall team initiatives including overall portfolio level strategy, risk management, and sustainability.
- Perform other duties, as requested.
What you will need
- 5-7+ years of experience in venture capital and/or growth equity with significant responsibility for managing deal processes.
- University undergraduate degree.
- Professional financial or other post-graduate designations(s) (e.g., MBA, CFA, CA) is an asset.
- Experience in playing a leading role in the investment process, including conducting due diligence, leading multiple diligence streams such as financial, operational, technological, legal, and tax.
- Financial modelling skills.
- High integrity and professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Grasp and understanding of current trends across various tech subsectors, including AI, enterprise SaaS, fintech, and life sciences.
- Excellent collaboration and relationship management skills, including the ability to share insights across the broader HOOPP platform and strengthen relationships across different teams.
