About Us

We’re an award-winning innovative tech consultancy - a team of creative problem solvers. Since 1993 we’ve been finding better, more sustainable ways to solve complex technology problems for some of the world’s leading organisations and delivered solutions that millions of people use every day.

In the last 30 years we won several awards, including our most recent inclusion in the Forbes World's Best Management Consulting Firms report.

Operating from 26 locations across the world, we bring together teams of creative experts with diverse backgrounds and experiences, who enjoy working and learning in our collaborative and open culture and are committed to world-class delivery.

We want to continue to grow our team in Australia with people just like you!

About the Role

We are Data, Analysis and AI team advocates and use data engineering best practices to build scalable and re-usable data solutions to help clients use their data to gain insights, drive decisions and deliver business value. Clients don’t engage BJSS to do the straightforward things, they ask us to help on their biggest challenges which means we get to work with a wide range of tools and technologies and there are always new things to learn.

Are you passionate about helping clients modernise their data estate using the Public Cloud?

Are you looking for real ownership on projects and to help shape clients’ data enablement roadmap in the public cloud?

We are looking for a talented Principal Consultant who wants to take the next step in their career and join our Data, Analytics and AI practice.

You’ll be a technical authority at the centre of our engagements, managing technical risk and creating real business value.

You’ll be willing to be hands-on when you need to be and seek to balance innovation and intellectual rigor with realism.

You will work with talented, innovative, and creative Data & AI technologists to design and implement the right data engineering and architecture choices for our clients. You will also lean into your technology knowledge to help define and contribute to our data accelerators.

About You

  • While we embrace a multi-cloud approach, this role centres on the AWS ecosystem. Additional experience with Azure, GCP, or Databricks platforms alongside AWS will set you apart
  • Proven, hands-on mastery of the AWS data toolkit, including tools like Redshift, Glue, S3, Athena, Lake Formation, RDS, Kinesis, MSK, open-source Kafka, Spark, and more. The broader your exposure, the better
  • Comprehensive knowledge of today’s cloud data architecture landscape, spanning relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and data lakehouses, with the ability to illustrate how data engineering binds these elements together
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential; familiarity with Scala, Java, or .NET is a valuable bonus
  • Practical experience with leading open-source or commercial tools for orchestration, pipeline management, data transformation, workflows, and integration
  • Solid grasp of architectural strategies for large-scale data ingestion and transformation
  • Demonstrated skills in data modeling, architecture, security, quality, governance, mining, analysis, and reporting are strongly preferred
  • Background in integrating third-party data vendors
  • An AWS Associate or Specialty certification in a data-related domain is a plus, as are additional certifications from AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • AI experience is advantageous

Other areas of interest to us that would strengthen your candidacy include:

  • Defining Future State Data Architecture
  • Defining Data migration repeatable patterns
  • Knowledge of Snowflake, Databricks, Synapse and/or Fabric
  • Experience of business development activities and developing client accounts
  • Strong record of leadership
  • Adept at communicating complex ideas effectively
  • You have the expertise and confidence to work with a range of partners across diverse business and technology communities
  • You have energy and a pragmatic delivery-focused attitude that wins the respect of those around you and makes you a trusted technical advisor
  • You love technology and want to keep on learning. You're genuinely interested in understanding the challenges your users face and how you can help them

Some of the Perks

  • An industry-leading referral scheme, with no limits on the number of referrals
  • Hybrid working - Our roles are not fully remote as we take pride in the tight knit communities we have created at our local offices. But we offer plenty of flexibility and you can split your time between the office, client site and WFH
  • Training opportunities and incentives – we support professional certifications across engineering and non-engineering roles, including unlimited access to O’Reilly
  • You will become part of a squad with people from different areas within the business who will help you grow at BJSS
  • Giving back – the ability to get involved nationally and regionally with partnerships to get people from diverse backgrounds into tech
  • We have a busy social calendar that you can choose to join– quarterly town halls/squad nights out/weekends away with families included/office get togethers

Working Restrictions

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability or any other legally protected basis, in accordance with applicable law.

BJSS will only employ those who are legally authorised to work in Australia for this opening. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship.
