Why Patients Need You
At Pfizer, our purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that transform patients' lives. Central to this mission is our Research and Development team, which strives to convert advanced science and cutting-edge technologies into impactful therapies and vaccines. Whether you are engaged in discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy, or supporting clinical trials, your role is crucial. You will leverage innovative design and process development capabilities to expedite the delivery of top-tier medicines to patients globally.
What You Will Achieve
This is a unique opportunity to be trained in the next-generation ASD pharmaceutical formulation and manufacturing, to work collaboratively with research teams within Pfizer, and to publish in high-impact journals. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with subject matter experts (SMEs) in pharmaceutical formulation, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, advanced Raman spectroscopy, light and electron microscopy, and particle characterization techniques, among others. By the end of the program, the Postdoc will not only address several fundamental and engineering questions on the formulation and processing of ASDs, but also will become proficient in workflows within pharmaceutical industry to move forward to their next leading role in industry or academia.
How You Will Achieve it
We are seeking an innovative Ph.D.-level scientist to join our Drug Product Design and Analytical Research and Development team as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, focusing on developing amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) manufacturing processes and understanding their physical properties. The qualified candidate will be responsible for developing ASD formulation strategies through hot-melt extrusion (HME) processes and improving the mechanistic understanding of HME process kinetics, scalability of the process, and stability of ASD products. The ideal candidate should have strong background in ASDs, extrusion-based manufacturing processes, and advanced characterization techniques.

  • Demonstrate strong technical and scientific rigor in project planning and gap identification.
  • Proactively conduct literature search to gather relevant information to form hypothesis for testing experimentally.
  • Design and perform experiments to develop ASDs, improve process understanding and their stability
  • Make data-driven decisions in shaping direction of their research project.
  • Generate and effectively communicate results regularly at internal meetings, external conferences, and in high-impact journals.

Qualifications
Must-Have

  • PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related field
  • Prior research experience in developing pharmaceutical formulations, amorphous solid dispersions, drug products manufacturing, polymer processing, powder/particle processing, or closely related field
  • Successful record of scientific accomplishments evidenced by scientific publications and/or presentations with at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Ability and desire to multitask and work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving, data analysis, planning, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to make a minimum 2-year commitment

Preferred Qualifications:
Nice-to-Have

  • A strong interest and motivation to learn and implement new technologies and concepts
  • Experience in thermodynamic modeling, mathematical modeling, statistics, or programming
  • Experience in spectroscopy, solid-state characterization, microscopy, rheology, and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Performing experiments in the lab using small and large scale equipment, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • May occasionally require travel for attending scientific conferences.
  • Work Location Assignment: On Premise
  • Must have work authorization in the US
