We are seeking an independent and highly motivated researcher to advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the progression of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Specifically, the research project will aim at investigating the role of T cell plasticity in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and in the development of chronic and tissue-damaging intestinal inflammation.

In this position you will:

  • Alone and in collaboration with data scientists, analyze multi-omics data sets including scRNAseq, TCRseq, 16Sseq, metabolomics and identify molecules to be tested in vitro;

  • Develop methods for isolation of immune cells from blood and tissue;

  • Perform detailed immune phenotyping of cell populations of interest using multicolormulti-color flow cytometry;

  • Perform sophisticated in vitro 3D cultures, including organoids, of human and mouse cells;

  • Investigate the impact of bacterial isolates and/or metabolites on host immune, epithelial and stromal cells;

  • Carry out in vivo studies to further mechanistic understanding;

  • Form close collaborative relationships with other scientists within the CMI Department and technical teams in other functions.

Who you are:

  • You hold a PhD in immunology obtained no longer than four years ago.

  • You have a profound understanding of human immunology, mucosal immunity and T cell biology.

  • You have extensive experience with state-of-the-art flow cytometry, including FACS.

  • You have a track record of hands-on experience with isolation and cultivation of human immune cells.

  • Experience with in vivo models of inflammation is a plus.

  • Experience in data analysis using R or Python is a plus.

  • You have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships and are an outstanding teammate.

  • Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently, to design, perform and interpret experiments and to embark on new scientific methodologies.

  • You published as a leading author in top-tier journals.

  • You have a strong team spirit, and you like to work in international teams

  • Your excellent English skills, written and spoken, complete your profile.

This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme.

The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.

The duration of the RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based in Basel, Switzerland.

The start date of this fellowship is as soon as possible. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date in your motivation letter. All applications always need to include a CV, motivation letter, the copy of your degree, and a publication list.
