Purpose of the Role
The global standard for industrial automation infrastructure at Mondelez manufacturing sites requires a high level of automation, utilizing PLC systems to enable autonomous control of production processes and detailed reporting on process parameters and equipment performance.
As a Plant Automation Engineer, you will be part of the plant maintenance team and primarily responsible for actively supporting and managing development and extension projects related to PLC systems and the CCN network, adhering to global standards. Your work will ensure smooth daily operations while strongly supporting growth at the plant. The scope includes supporting more than 300 interconnected PLC systems integrated into the CCN network, operational across 24 production lines.
Areas of Responsibility
Automation Systems Ownership
- Oversee PLC-based automation systems, robotic systems, electric drives and motion systems, industrial vision systems, including deployment, configuration, testing, and maintenance.
- Maintain full ownership of PLC system operations to ensure system reliability and performance.
Engineering and Development
- Develop and deploy automated applications according to plant needs, aligned with MDLZ global engineering standards.
- Support the internal automation team at the Bratislava plant in IT and OT-related services and production projects.
- Implement and manage projects based on MDLZ global automation standards and engineering solutions.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze PLC process control to identify unstable parameters, measure process inputs/outputs, and improve performance indicators such as GE, MTBF, and MTTR.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize process stability and system efficiency.
Main Responsibilities
Support for Production and Maintenance Operations
- Act as the second line of maintenance support, proactively managing and resolving technical issues.
- Provide standard and non-standard business hours support during emergencies or project-critical situations.
Maintenance and Continuous Performance Improvements
- Design and deploy improvements to local automation infrastructure and hardware, evaluating performance impacts.
- Support local and global applications used in process control, reporting, and analysis.
- Perform regular safety, quality, and performance checks and audits for automated production systems.
- Maintain and continuously improve the hardware and software portfolio, including PLC, robotics, and industrial vision systems.
Engineering Activities
- Design, implement, and lead the vertical start-up of industrial automation infrastructure, including PLC systems, OT networks, and robotic systems, in collaboration with suppliers and the automation/project team.
- Ensure compliance with electrical, OT, and IT standards (e.g., IEC, ISA, NIS2).
Collaboration
- Communicate and closely cooperate with the plant automation team, plant stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Serve as the site contact for regionally and globally managed services and OEM/service suppliers in the field of automation and robotics.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of external vendors.
Project Management
- Participate in local engineering and IT projects within the defined scope of responsibility (electrical, OT, and IT).
Strategies, Policies, and Processes
- Support the plant's deliverables across their full scope.
- Define and execute a local strategic plan for IT and OT engineering services.
