The Hartford’s Global Specialty Performance Analytics organization is seeking a talented professional to join the high-performing DS&A team supporting the diverse portfolio of businesses that constitute Global Specialty.
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Performance Analytics Consultant works with their team to execute the vision and strategy for data and performance analytics in Global Specialty. They will cultivate a culture of data-driven decision-making, accountability, and execution on strategic initiatives aimed at profitable growth productively and efficiently. As a partner to Underwriting and related partners – including Product, Actuarial, Claims and Finance -- they will leverage the power of data and analytics to support the pursuit of the organization’s business objectives.
This teammate will dig deep into business development, financial and operating performance data to understand what’s driving data patterns and trends, and the relationship to underwriting appetite and business processes. The position will touch some of the diverse segments comprising Global Specialty, with a US and/or International presence in many lines:

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE…

· Has working knowledge of analytical, visualization, data manipulation and reporting tools
· Has business analytics skills and can translate the story to business partners
· Asks probing questions to get key information from business partners, builds strong partnerships, and helps lift the analytical capabilities of the organization
· Has foundational knowledge of insurance products, claims coverage, actuarial concepts and common KPI’s
· Can quickly gain knowledge of the GS business from both Underwriting and Operational perspectives
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Analyses of data trends, discovery of key drivers and visualization / communication of findings to business partners
· Analysis of GS portfolios of business as assigned on a routine cadence covering KPI’s, flow, claims and insights from partner’s tools (eg. Submission Triage and Quote/Risk monitoring; Actuarial scorecards)
· Support Underwriting strategies to improve operational results and address emerging trends
· Intermediate level analytics, including analyzing internal and external influences, monitoring leading and lagging indicators and application of visual and statistical techniques to reach conclusions
· Develop an understanding of GS data assets, combining data from multiple disparate sources as required
· Contribute to building trusted partnerships with Underwriting and related partners by developing business insights from flow, profitability, efficiency, distribution and book profile metrics
· Create and refine performance analytic tools for PA team usage
· Support ad-hoc projects, analytic requests and data queries
· Field questions and garner feedback on analyses, observations / conclusions, KPI’s and visualizations
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Creative problem solving and curious mindset with a passion for delivering outcomes
· Strong analytical experience
· Knowledge of data warehousing / relational database concepts and foundational experience with SQL
· Experience with MS Excel & Tableau
· Ability to build working relationships with business partners and bring groups of folks together to solve problems;
· Effective written, verbal communication and story-telling skills
· Proficient in using analytical and data visualization tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau)
· Foundational knowledge of insurance products, coverages, common metrics, & actuarial concepts
· Ability and desire to learn GS business products, systems, processes and procedures
· Consultative mindset
· Creative, innovative and a critical thinker – thinks “out of the box” and considers new ways of analyzing data
· Adept at researching and independently learning about new subject areas
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT, Charlotte, NC, Chicago, IL or Columbus, OH) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$74,210 - $111,315
