About The Role:

We are looking for a detail-oriented, analytical and upbeat Payroll Accountant to help oversee all aspects of the payroll cycle for all employees based in the Colorado office. In addition to providing payroll support, the Payroll Accountant will assist the accounting and finance department with any work or projects that are needed. You will be responsible for managing all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives, including relationships with internal/external auditors and state and federal agencies. While time is spent administering various payroll functions, there is also a strategic responsibility in guiding all of the organization’s payroll matters and strategically assisting other departments with analytics and other information as identified. This position requires an extremely detail-oriented person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations and related tax matters.

This position will start as a temporary role for 90 days, with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position based on performance and organizational needs.

A Day In The Life:

  • Ensure accurate, timely processing and review of multi-state, bi, and semi-weekly payroll for 400 and growing salaried and hourly employees

  • Maintain payroll records to ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls protocols

  • Process miscellaneous off-cycle payments including final paychecks, pay adjustments, bonuses, etc.

  • Provide the highest level of customer service to Crusoe by answering questions and resolving payroll-related issues in a timely and professional manner

  • Payroll auditing, data validation, and complex reporting as necessary

  • Review, manage, and process calculations for garnishments, and support orders

  • Meet with People Operations department on a weekly basis to ensure leave and benefit changes are being accurately reflected in the payroll

  • Assist with the monthly closing process by reviewing and reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts as needed

  • Assist in setup, maintenance, monitoring and auditing state tax accounts to ensure accurate and timely filings by the payroll provider

  • Ad hoc reporting as needed

  • Works collaboratively with the Finance and HR teams on issues related to posting of payroll transactions to the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations as appropriate

  • Works collaboratively with HR on annual benefits enrollment, and ensuring proper monthly deductions/contributions from both employee and employer

  • Assist with PTO management, processing and reporting

  • Prepares Payroll forecasts on a monthly basis, collaborating with HR, recruiters and business partners of the timing of new hires and terms

  • Uses a great deal of discretion and independent judgment to ensure employee confidentiality and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

  • Assists the accounting a finance departments with project work or specifically assigned duties

  • This role is a hybrid, 3 days in office 2 days remote 

You Will Thrive In This Role If:

  • 2+ years of full-cycle multi-state payroll experience from new year setup through to year-end reporting

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel including lookups, pivot tables, etc. 

  • Experience in Accounting and Finance duties a plus

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), CPP or equivalent payroll designation

  • Experience with Rippling payroll preferred but not required

  • Excellent customer service, problem-solving and multitasking skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organization and time-management skills

  • Solid understanding of payroll fundamentals, legislation, and best practices competitive pay

Compensation Range:

Compensation will be paid hourly at $35-$40. Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
