POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Compliance, the Patent Counsel will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure and protect Indivior’s intellectual property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Build and manage patent portfolios related to cutting-edge pharmaceutical products and processes, including small-molecule chemicals and formulations.
- Draft and prosecute patent applications in the U.S., and support local agents outside of the U.S. in the same
- Manage outside counsel to ensure that work, methodology, budget, and strategy meet internal expectations
- Support the R&D organization, including via client counseling, invention spotting, freedom-to-operate analysis, due diligence analysis and reporting, and helping to identify non-patent legal or business risks.
- Interact with all major areas of the business, including commercial, medical, audit, compliance, business development, manufacturing and supply, and transactional groups.
- Support U.S. and non-U.S. patent litigation, oppositions, IPRs, or other global judicial and non-judicial proceedings
- Assist in drafting and interpreting contracts related to manufacturing processes, third-party collaborations, and other intellectual property issues
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a biologic or chemical field.
- At least 4 years of experience in patent prosecution, with at least 2 of those years focused on small molecule patent prosecution
- Admitted to practice before the USPTO

- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with people at different levels within the company across diverse teams located in different jurisdictions and time zones. This is an interactive role that requires excellent communication skills, the ability to identify innovations, and succinctly identify and communicate decisions to a team.
- Comfort using, or willingness to incorporate, technological tools and systems to increase workplace efficiency
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle and prioritize multiple time sensitive projects.
- Strong analytical and research skills
