Passionfruit is a growing brand - currently published as a newsletter twice weekly - dedicated to creators and the Creator Economy. Part of Fragment Media Group, it is a sister publication to The Daily Dot. Providing a mix of feature stories and service journalism, with a focus on tips and tricks and tools to help creators succeed, Passionfruit is on track to become a must-read for creators. Our mission is to give digital creators of all sizes access to sustainable creativity tips, equitable treatment, accountability for platforms, and transparency with brands. We've done so by expanding beyond newsletters to further offerings like events, educational courses, industry research, and awards. 
We are now seeking a Managing Editor to help grow the Passionfruit operation, with the following characteristics:

General Qualities

  • A deep understanding of the creator space and the various creator platforms: someone who understands what the Must Read/See/Do is for this audience and wants to build it. Experience with your own digital creativity is strongly valued.
  • Fascination with the business of being a creator, is a creator, or wants to be a creator
  • A curiosity about how things work (a Lifehacker-y mentality)
  • A connector of dots, a systems thinker
  • The desire to build and scale a growing business with a team of mission-driven journalists.
  • An existing reputation and following on social media
  • The desire to become the face of coverage of the Creator Economy


Editorial experience

  • 3+ years of journalism management experience
  • 2+ years of newsletter experience
  • Experience with features editing
  • A personal understanding of the challenges facing creators
  • Knowledge of the newsletter editorial space
  • Knowledge of member revenue models and editorial’s role in them
  • Understanding of social media marketing and user acquisition
  • Appreciation for service journalism driven by audience needs
  • Desire to build community and events
  • Experience working as part of and managing a virtual team
  • Skill in multitasking and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Public appearances or speaking engagements a plus

What You'll Be Doing

  • Find, assign, edit, package, and publish original news, essays, analysis stories and features to anchor our Passionfruit coverage.
  • Identify and articulate the hot stories that drive the cultural conversation
  • Collaborate across departments to build compelling editorial packages for community members and sponsors.
