Banner University Medical Center Transplant Institute is Arizona’s most experienced transplant center, providing comprehensive care to adult patients in pre and post-transplant acute clinics for heart, lung, liver, and kidney/pancreas transplant, as well as, long term follow up on the transplant recipient. As part of the Banner Health Academic Medical Division we offer Transplant Services in Phoenix and Tucson, AZ. Our Transplant Institute prides itself on delivering compassionate, quality care to our patients and families leading to successful, optimal outcomes. Performing over 450 transplants per year, our programs are poised for continued growth! 

This is a full-time opportunity, working 3–12-hour shifts. Hours are varied, working both days and nights on rotation about every 4 weeks. Weekend rotations are required in this role. Enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18%-night shift differential when applicable.  This role is fully remote.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides coordination and communication of all aspects of organ donor offers for the Banner University Medicine Division which currently involves 8 Medicare approved transplant programs. Screens and evaluates potential organs for transplantation in conjunction with the transplant surgeon. This requires a flexible work schedule as shifts range from day time to night- time including weekends. Provides organ recovery and coordination services to all transplant disciplines including heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Coordinates, evaluates, documents, and communicates all donor organ referral calls.
2. Consults and discusses organ suitability with on-call transplant surgeon/team.
3. Requests additional laboratory testing and/or donor management changes as directed.
4. Coordinates donor management and recovery process with other transplant staff members and host organ procurement organization.
5. Appropriately utilizes electronic records including DonorNet, EPIC, and transplant database (OTTR).
6. Provides feedback, written and verbal, to all related persons within 24 hours of recovery and transplantation.
7. Keeps current with existing policies and procedures and abides by UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) and CMS policies.
8. Demonstrates initiative in improving working relationships with OPO personnel and Banner transplant team members.
9. Works independently to coordinate excellent patient care for those on the transplant waiting lists at Banner Tucson and Phoenix which encompasses 8 individual clinical programs. Care coordination is done in accordance with OPTN/UNOS regulations which requires a response within 1 hour of the organ offer. Internal customers include patients, members of the multidisciplinary transplant team including physicians and surgeons as well as OR personnel and ancillary staff at both campuses. External customers include patients, family members, transportation and logistics staff, staff at local and national organ procurement organization as well as UNOS personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of four years of experience in healthcare or hospital or laboratory technician roles is required. Requires thorough understanding of medical terminology and interpretation of basic organ function vital signs/labs. Demonstrated excellence in communication and customer service skills. Ability to multi-task under pressure and appropriately prioritize actions to accomplish goals. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Medical Assistant and/or Patient Care Technician experience. Experience working in organ donation and transplantation in either an OPO or Transplant Center.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
