A Brief Overview
Under the general supervision of the clinical nurse manager, physician, and supervisor, the Ophthalmic Tech II will perform all of the tasks listed for Ophthalmic Tech I with the additional responsibilities listed below. Perform an array of measurements and ophthalmic testing as requested by the physician and medical staff.

What you will do

  • Accurately and correctly measures autorefraction, corneal curvature and patient's axial length with the A-Scan unit.
  • Accurately and correctly measures patient's color vision and visual acuity using potential visual acuity meter or Retinometer.
  • Accurately and correctly measures patient's intraocular pressure using applanation tonometer and Tonopen.
  • Accurately and correctly performs and records visual acuity, both distance and near, used pinhole and appropriate.
  • Accurately and correctly performs diagnostic ultrasound, both A and B Scan modes.
  • Accurately and correctly performs Electrophysiology testing.
  • Accurately and correctly performs visual field testing using Goldman and Humphrey testing procedures.
  • Accurately and correctly uses corneal topography unit.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the indications, pathology and basic interpretations of test being performed.
  • Demonstrates skill assisting physicians during Argon and Yag laser procedures.
  • Follows policy/procedure to instill eye drops and administer medication.
  • Performs eye irrigations according to physician's order and written procedure.

Education Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associate Degree - Combined experience/education, as substitute for minimum education.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) on or before September 15, 2025 and maintained by renewal before expiration date.

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience serving as an ophthalmic technician in a high-volume setting Required
  • Experience working in a university-based medical facility/academic teaching environment. Preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent client relationship, exhibit exemplary interpersonal skills and exercise sound judgment and professionalism in business and personnel matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.
  • Knowledge and use of eye drops and medications.
  • Knowledge and use of ophthalmic eye instruments and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic environment and laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations.

  • BLS - Basic Life Support
  • COA

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $39.33 - $44.11 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
