Your Mission

As an Operations Research Analyst, your expertise will drive the analysis and development of innovative solutions for complex operational challenges. You will utilize a variety of modeling approaches—statistical models, simulations, and optimization techniques—to tackle problems and provide actionable insights. Collaborating with stakeholders, you’ll gather modeling requirements, prepare reports, and effectively communicate findings to guide decision-making.

You’ll have the opportunity to mentor others in preparing training materials on techniques such as optimization and simulation. You will bring your expertise in analytics and statistics to develop innovative modeling and measurement techniques, leveraging mathematics, statistical methods, engineering approaches, operational mathematics such as linear programming, simulations, and principles from scientific and economic disciplines.

You Will Excel in This Role If You Are:

• Skilled in using a variety of modeling techniques such as statistical modeling, simulation, and optimization to solve diverse problems
• Comfortable gathering modeling requirements from stakeholders
• Proficient at preparing reports of modeling approach and results, and briefing the modeling results to stakeholders
• Capable of working independently or leading a team to design and validate operational models
• Interested in mentoring others and potentially developing training materials to share Operations Research techniques

A Day in the Life

• Collaborate with mission leads and system owners to understand operational challenges and data requirements
• Develop mathematical or simulation models tailored to specific problems, iterating and validating to ensure accuracy
• Analyze model outputs and use statistical methods to refine approaches, ensuring the reliability of results
• Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing your findings, including clear problem definitions, evaluations, and actionable solutions
• Brief stakeholders on modeling results, providing insights to inform high-level decision-making
• Contribute to team discussions on new modeling approaches and recommend computational methods to enhance analyses

Must Haves

• TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance
• Experience with conducting analyses of management and operational problems using Operations Research techniques
• Experience with the application of modeling and simulation to Decision Analysis problems and Cost & Benefit Analysis problems
• Experience with any of the following: PANDAS, R, Excel and VBA, ARENA, OCTAVE, Tableau, Gurobi and CPLEX, EXTENDSIM, SAS, NETICA, stats models, Stata, MATLAB, or SPSS
• For Level 2:
• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or Management Science and 10+ years of relevant experience; or
• Master’s degree and 8+ years of experience; or
• Doctorate degree and 6+ years of experience
• For Level 3:
• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or Management Science and 15+ years of relevant experience; or
• Master’s degree and 10+ years of experience; or
• Doctorate degree and 8+ years of experience

Nice to Haves

• Experience mentoring or developing training materials related to Operations Research techniques
• Strong technical writing and oral communication skills
• Advanced skills in performing validation and testing of models to ensure adequacy, or determine the need for reformulation
