You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.
We are seeking an Operations Engineer with experience in highly complex technical supply chains and manufacturing. At Apptronik, this role plays a crucial part in supporting the hardware design team to optimize designs for volume production. Responsibilities include managing suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality, cost-effective assemblies. A strong technical understanding of engineering design is essential, enabling collaboration with designers to enhance manufacturability and procure critical components efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Self-motivated & proactive, demonstrating creative and critical thinking capabilities
- Translating complex designs into optimized manufacturing solutions
- Management of vendor teams to ensure product meets quality and delivery
schedules - Evaluate suppliers to assess technical capability, equipment, and capacity for rapid deployment of new product development and long term production to implement a successful end-to-end product life cycle management strategy and process
- Work closely with teams in production, quality assurance, and engineering to ensure material specifications are met
- Review and approve ECOs/MCOs Engineering Changes and conduct DFx (design for manufacturing, design for cost, design for assembly, etc.) reviews to ensure parts are manufacturable at early stages, preferably prior to sourcing
- Provide guidance to internal engineering customers on design for manufacturability, supply chain optimization, and cost reduction strategies for hardware commodities
- Develop and implement process improvements at internal and external sites
- Implement risk management strategies to prevent and address potential supply chain disruptions
- Prepare, issue, and analyze RFx packages for project requirements
- Issue and follow up on purchase orders as needed for Apptronik programs
- Between 25-50% travel
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to learn quickly and prioritize tasks appropriately to meet customer and company needs
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals & manufacturing processes
- Experience with interpreting engineering drawings and models; GD&T, etc.
- Experience supporting new product launches from a manufacturing or product development perspective
- Excellent written and oral communication in highly technical applications
- Excellent interpersonal and team management skills
- Detailed knowledge of product development process and life cycles
- Experience with quality systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP) and MRP/ERP systems
- Excellent knowledge of business software tools (Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace Suite, Dropbox, etc.)
- Experience with sharing information and influencing others across organizational lines, both internally and externally
- Experience with Arena or Agile.
NICE TO HAVE:
- 5+ years experience with contract manufacturing at international sites
- 5+ years experience with high volume manufacturing
- Procurement experience
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (or similar)
- 5+ years experience in manufacturing, process, or similar engineering role
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
- Hearing and speech to communicate
