Waltonen Engineering is seeking a Tooling Designer to join our team!
Responsibilities
- Create engineered solutions using NX, developing innovative and effective tooling designs from initial concept through detailed 3D design and 2D detailing
- Design and/or modify CAD models according to customer specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project timelines
- Prepare design layouts for complex units and mechanisms, ensuring all components fit together seamlessly and function as intended
- Make necessary design computations to ensure the feasibility and functionality of designs, including stress analysis and load calculations.
- Perform essential engineering calculations, such as material selection and strength analysis
- Prepare detailed specifications, including bills of materials, to guide the manufacturing and assembly processes
- Collaborate with layout drafters and detailers to ensure all design elements are accurately represented and completed on time
- Utilize manual and computer-aided design skills to produce detailed drawings that meet all project specifications and customer requirements
- Apply basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure designs are accurately dimensioned and toleranced
- Ensure all designs and modifications meet or exceed customer expectations and project specifications
Qualifications
- Proven experience in utilizing NX CAD software for tooling design, demonstrating proficiency in both 3D modeling and 2D detailing
- At least two years of hands-on experience in tooling design, showcasing the ability to handle complex design projects
- Knowledge of various materials and components used in tooling design, including their properties and applications.
- Flexibility to work anywhere from 40 to 60 hours per week as needed, with the ability to adapt to fluctuating workloads and project demands
- Strong analytical skills to recognize and solve design and mechanical problems efficiently and effectively
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and convey design concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Body-in-White (BIW) weld systems, including design and implementation
- Experience with Teamcenter or equivalent software for managing product lifecycle and design data
- Exposure to the defense industry, with an understanding of the unique requirements and standards involved
- Experience designing with Creo 3D software
