Vast is looking for a NDT Engineer, reporting to the Manager, NDT to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with vital stakeholders to develop and execute feasibility studies, Probability of Detections (PODs), and qualification plans.
- To provide technical expertise on all NDT matters as required on projects;
- Assist and support the NDT Co-ordinator or the project teams on all NDT matters;
- Prepare NDT procedures for assigned projects
- Develop and publish part-specific NDE techniques for a variety of complex parts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Masters Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline
- Nondestructive Evaluation Level 3 certification in line with ASNT TC-1A or NAS-410 in one of the following methods: RT, UT, or ET.
- 5+ years experience working in an aerospace or nuclear setting
- Strong Project Management skills
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction.
- IRRSP Holder
- Knowledge of industry standards (NASA, AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM, etc.)
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
- Experience inspecting advanced materials such as high strength aluminum alloys, precipitation hardened steels, inconel, monel, titanium, and maraging steel (super alloys)
- Knowledge of NASA 5009 standards
- Knowledge of AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM, standards
- Experience with implementing and creating POD studies.
- Strong Lean background
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work as a teammate and independently to achieve ambitious goals.
- Hands-on engineering (Full-stack: computer to wrench to broom).
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- 10% > willingness to travel as required
- Able to work in various work environments. Examples, exposure to loud noises or potential outdoor conditions
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted
- Flexibility to work overtime and adapt to a varying schedule.
- Must have documented evidence of previous training and certification
Pay Range:
- NDE Engineer II: $99,000 - $142,000
- Senior NDE Enginee: $124,000 - $170,000
