CBS 8 (the TEGNA station in San Diego, CA) is seeking a producer to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves news, and enjoys working on the cutting edge of television, digital, and social media. CBS 8 cross-trains producers on television and digital platforms. Our producers have a strong journalistic base, excel with conversational writing, and can multitask under tight deadlines.
This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to an executive producer. This producer position is for evenings and weekend evenings.
Responsibilities:
•    Line produces newscasts, creates segments and shows that are engaging and innovative
•    Write in an exciting, accurate, creative, and conversational way
•    Ability to edit content and showcase stories for broadcast and digital platforms
•    Research facts and sources’ credibility
•    Pitch story ideas
•    Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories
•    Use social listening and independent sources to gather story ideas
•    Lead and inspire news teams to work together to create memorable shows
•    Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer
•    This position may include nightside and/or weekend work
Requirements:
•    BA/BS in Journalism, Communications, or related field
•    1+ years of producing experience preferred
•    Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content
•    Experience in editing and content management systems is a plus
•    Passion for journalism and fact-based reporting
•    Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources with an ability to work well with a team and meet deadlines
•    Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
•    Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
•    Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics is a plus
•    Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
•    Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
