Job Description SummaryTest Systems Engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline that provides product and hardware validation through the design and creation of test facilities and hardware that generate product relevant test environments, design and integration of state-of-the-art instrumentation and data systems, and execution of product tests from early technology maturation through system certification.
The New Technology Introduction Test Team Leader role is a technical leader working closely with the Systems and Design teams to assess technology maturation testing needs ranging from component to full engine builds. The Team Leader is responsible for leading/directing a cross-functional team comprised of test owners and other key contributors to plan and execute a broad range of testing activities in support of achieving overall program technology objectives. The Team Leader will be responsible for identifying facility requirements, test enabling hardware needs and instrumentations needs across the program as well as the enterprise and communicating the projector labor demand to the individual teams within TSE. Additionally, the Team Leader will also serve as Test Owner for a subset of test events.
The candidate will also support specific test efforts as required, working closely with the Engine Systems, Design, Supply Chain, and the global Test Organization to derive test requirements, define critical infrastructure, instrumentation, and data system needs, and design test plans that support technology readiness level milestones.Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership for a team of engineers for all product validation aspects of the assigned technology and associated propulsion system.
  • Ensures product or technology verification requirements can be successfully demonstrated through test and data analysis.
  • Establishes derived product and system requirements for development of test environments and execution.
  • Defines interfaces between Engine Systems, Test Facility Design, and Operations.
  • Recommends approaches to meet technical and program requirements.
  • Integrates customer requirements into NPI and qualification planning.
  • Executes test and capability improvement plans aligned with program and business strategic objectives.
  • Determines the specific expertise needed to execute on test requirements and coordinates resources and schedules to meet requirements.
  • Assists proposal efforts in response to RFI, RFP, and RFQs for both internal and external customers.
  • Provides forward looking strategy for product validation and technology development to drive a competitive advantage. 
  • Develops and manages program schedules and budget baselines to meet business objectives.
  • Supports risk and opportunity boards and leads team execution to minimize program risk exposure.
  • Supports long term strategic roadmaps for test capability, facilities, and instrumentation to provide schedule and cost estimates to senior leadership and external customers.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in design, systems integration, or qualification engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace industry.
  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires a U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Ability to travel out of state a minimum of 15% annually.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Active U.S. government Secret Security Clearance, preferred with AP approval.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across the matrix.
  • Exposure to aviation engine design or certification requirements.
  • Experience with GE NPI Tollgate and Military Qualification processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
