Monitoring Engineer

Your Focus
As Monitoring Engineer, based out of Chennai , India, you will be responsible you will be responsible for working to enhance our current monitoring platform, by developing new metrics and triggers while also helping to support the daily routines of the company Data Centre and remote sites on a 24x7x365 basis. You will work with both on and off-site resources including team members from Engineering, Application, Development and Local IT and outside vendor/Contractors.
The role reports to Global Linux Engineering Manager.
How You Will Contribute

Build out new monitoring abilities within the environment spanning over all business units.

Build rich dashboards to visualize performance metrics for end users.

Enhance existing monitors to provide richer data and where applicable enhance triggers to provide better alerting.

Familiarity with interacting with RESTful API(s).

Provide work guidance and training to less experienced personnel.

Monitor all production systems to include servers, storage, network, and applications.

Monitoring of facilities and data center infrastructure.

Manage all incidents to include initial troubleshooting, escalation, notification, and remediation Create, Update and Manage tickets and escalations via e-mail, phone call or “Service Now” trouble ticketing system.

Participate in incident and problem support activities including RCA (Root Cause Analysis) when requested.

Investigate, diagnose, and take prescribed actions on all operational events, alarms, and incidents.

Maintain operational logs and journals on all events, warnings, alerts, and alarms, recording and classifying all messages; maintain all operational data collection procedures, mechanisms, and tools.

Work with manager and team leads to maintain all operational documentation and processes.

Responsible for updating the Shift Lead System Support Engineer, Manager, or other key stakeholders with any updates on outstanding issues. Ensure that all routine maintenance tasks are completed.
What you will need to be successful

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering or any other relevant discipline.

Minimum 7 years of experience in Information Technology focusing within the monitoring space.

Strong knowledge of Operating systems spanning over multiple flavours, Windows, Linux, AIX, UNIX, etc.

Strong scripting ability in Shell/Python/PowerShell/JavaScript.

Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).

Strong knowledge of system provisioning tools preferably Ansible.

Excellent knowledge of monitoring and monitoring solutions preferably in some or all the below.

Zabbix, Dynatrace, Grafana, Loki

Good understanding of containers, Hypervisors.

Excellent understanding of networking (DNS/DHCP/TFTP/Routing)

Keen interest in the Open-Source community and Open-Source technology.

Self-driven individual who has the personal drive to enhance and fix issues they see during the day. While ensuring process/procedures are being performed.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in English.
