Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers.
The Modeling and Simulation Computing Department (MSCD) consists of a team dedicated to ground-breaking software solutions and capabilities for government and commercial customer needs. We are looking for an Engineering Manager for Modeling and Simulation Computing, Implementation and Optimization Section (Engineering Manager - Systems and Modeling and Simulation Engineer). We enable detailed and complex modeling, analysis, optimization, and visualization of satellite orbits, system architectures, and engineering trade-spaces to provide customer decision support for the future of space.
Work Model
This is a full-time position based in Chantilly, VA, or Colorado Springs, CO, offering a hybrid work model that combines 4 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Manage the Implementation and Optimization Section within MSCD comprised of talented developers responsible for employing modern software practices to maintain and enhance a wide range of advanced modeling capabilities in support of Aerospace customers.
    • Build a talented organization through recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding new staff
    • Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment, maintain team morale, and monitor individual well-being and job satisfaction
    • Develop staff through performance management, evaluation, coaching, mentoring
    • Obtain, manage, and tailor work assignments to staff skillsets
    • Ensure the technical quality of staff work products
    • Acquire resources necessary for the success of the staff
    • Manage overall capabilities of the section paying attention to health/status and necessary evolutions to support customers
    • Interface with program office and government customers, other corporate support organizations, as well as other ETG departments
    • Execute business administration functions (e.g., budget, resource allocation)
    • Mentor junior developers to effectively engage with customers and teammates on best practices for software architecture design, requirements development, and workflow integration.
    • Collaborate with department management and other managers as needed
  • In addition to leadership and management functions, act as a technical leader and contributor for:
    • Design of subdivision software architecture and workflows to meet capability requirements
    • Integration of subdivision software and workflows to meet user needs
    • Partnering with analysis leads and customers to ensure readiness and extendibility of software capabilities


What You Need to be Successful - Engineering Manager - Modeling & Simulation and Systems Software Engineering
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM
  • Demonstrated experience leading development teams, coordinating complex technical tasks among team members, and translating customer needs into viable instructions for developers
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete tasks, learn new technical approaches, and interact effectively with a broad range of organizations
  • Substantial experience with modeling and simulation software development in two or more of the following areas: architecture performance analysis and modeling, optimization and/or decision support, communications systems analysis, digital engineering, HPC computing, cloud computing, software and/or simulation development
  • Proficiency in one or more of the department's core computer languages such as C++ or Python
  • Experience leveraging software configuration management and collaboration tools in team environments (Bitbucket, Jira, GitHub, or similar)
  • Experience in the use and maintenance of PC or UNIX platforms, and associated software
  • Prior experience working in an engineering matrix that supports Aerospace program office personnel or similar
  • Willing to travel occasionally to corporate or customer locations to support efforts as needed
  • A current and active TS/SCI security clearance.

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
