ERG is seeking an experienced instructional designer to provide full-time training development support as a member of our Facilities Team. The person in this position will primarily support technical instructional content development and delivery for energetics research and development (R&D), manufacturing, facility operations, and process safety groups. The position will be hybrid including routine support on-site at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland, in the Washington, DC metro area.

Job Description:

  • Apply instructional design theories and methods for adult learners. 
  • Write instructional storyboards with a technical/procedural focus.
  • Review and improve storyboards from an instructional/implementation perspective. 
  • Design and develop online learning courses using tools such as the Articulate 360 Suite of Tools, particularly Storyline 360. 
  • Prepare graphical designs and templates for online training modules. 
  • Implement and test online training modules. 
  • Design and develop training webinars, in-person classes, and hybrid learning programs. 
  • Review and develop facilitator guides and support subject matter experts (SMEs) and technicians in “train the trainer” settings.
  • Create instructional assets (e.g., visuals, audio, video, animations, simulations). 
  • Use learning management systems to launch SCORM-compliant training packages. 
  • Apply Section 508 accessibility guidelines and become Trusted Tester certified. 
  • Work collaboratively with project team members, such as subject matter experts (within ERG and Federal clients), writers, graphic artists, and instructional designers. 
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to conceptualize instructional approaches for training projects. 
  • Complete project manager duties for projects as requested.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an appropriate study (e.g., Information Technology and Design, Computer Science, Instructional Design, Communications, Education, Multi-media Arts,) with experience in developing content on technical topics. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field with Instructional Design certification or experience would also be appropriate.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in developing scientifically/technically complex content in collaboration with technical subject matter experts.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Experience in Photoshop, Premiere, and other Adobe Creative Suite products would be preferred. 
  • Proficient in Section 508 accessibility guidelines.
  • Experience or interest in developing virtual reality or simulation-based training tools is preferred.
  • Bonus points if you have an interest in voice narration or onscreen video recording, or if you are interested in being a technical instructor.
