Job Summary: The Mentoring Specialist is responsible for using sound professional judgment and best practices to ensure quality services are provided to the service population especially in crisis situations while maintaining compliance with established state and federal standards. This role provides specialized mentoring support using evidence-based practices to help youth build family-based resilience, mitigate trauma-related behavior, and meaningfully connect with a network of safe adults.    

Essential Functions: 
1. Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
2. Communicate with families and/or prospective mentors within the specified timeframe to discuss the role of BCFS HHS.
3. Recruit mentors, targeting communities where most program youth live.
4. Screen mentors using written assessment, interviews, reference interviews, and comprehensive background check including FBI fingerprinting.
5. Contact the family and the school (if consent is provided) monthly to discuss the youth’s progress.
6. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
7. Participate in community meetings and build program relationships in the community.
8. Meet all deadlines required by program director and state/federal partners.
9. Ensure communication up and down the chain is timely.
10. Remain within travel expenditures, efficiency, and safety protocols.
11. Participate in workshops, seminars, education programs and activities that promote professional growth and development.
12. Participate in consultations with the director.
13. Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position director.
14. Implement BCFS-HHS safety protocols including evacuating with clients and other staff in case of an emergency.
15. Maintain BCFS-HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and complying with the required dress code, at all times.

Measurable Deliverables:
1.    Match 35 youth annually with mentors.
2.    Increase in # of program mentors recruited per 6 months.
3.    Train mentors with 30 hours of training, with the emphasis on evidence-based interventions for youth exposed to trauma.
4.    Maintain mentor retention at the program requirement.
5.    Maintain number and percentage of youth matched at level of the program requirement.
6.    Create and upload requisitions according to BCFS HHS accounting policies using the correct ledger codes from BCFS HHS approved budget(s) as provided by the Director.
7.    Maintain timely and accurate file documentation and data entry that meets the program requirements for the agency and contract standards.
8.    Document all client contacts within 48 hours in Salesforce and submit monthly reports as specified by Director each month.
9.    Ensure that program outcomes are tracked and achieved each quarter.
10.    Ensure and maintain caseload in accordance with agency policies & procedures, licensing, and contract standards.

11.    Demonstrate the ability to:
a.    Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
b.    Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
c.    Work in a fast-paced environment.
d.    Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
e.    Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
f.    Travel as needed.
12.    Other job duties as assigned per grant requirements.

Requirements:
1.    Maintain certificates required for the position including but not limited to First Aid and CPR.
2.    Valid Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record and reliable transportation.
3.    Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens. 
4.    Provide proof or work eligibility status upon request.
5.    Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years).
