About the role

In the role of Media Acquisitions Director (Interactive), you will report to the Vice President, Strategic Initiatives.

We are considering applicants for the location of Tokyo, Japan. 

We are seeing a Media Acquisitions Director (Interactive) to serve as a bridge between the greatest creative minds in Japan and the passionate fans who devour their work. As an individual contributor, you will manage the evaluation process, the bidding, and negotiation process for Anime IP interactive rights (e.g. metaverse platforms, interactive utilizations, in-universe digital content, and more), and serve as a partner manager to ensure we provide the best service and attention to our valued licensors.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Identify, negotiate, and procure interactive publishing licenses for various interactive platforms and digital ecosystems.
  • Meet with and provide first-class service to our many Japanese partners.
  • Respond to licensor requests and bid submissions.
  • Collaborate with the central Crunchyroll rights acquisitions and licensing teams and the streaming evaluation teams to assess the value of interactive rights.
  • Work with the streaming acquisitions team and the broader Emerging Business group to close contracts and secure delivery of assets
  • Partner with Marketing, Brand Management, and Content teams to procure marketing materials and assets needed to support successful interactive / in-universe launches and maintenance.
  • Apply internal data and business intel to offer insights and critical support to demonstrate the success our partner IPs have achieved and to assist with long-term strategic tie-ups.
  • Influence IP holders to select Crunchyroll above their list of partner options.

About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • 10+ years of negotiation experience working with international anime, film, or interactive content with a focus on licensing in or licensing out IP.
  • Experience with Meta-platforms or gaming industry and proficient in platform / ecosystem rights breakdown, fee allocations, and economics.
  • Experience navigating licensor approval process with Japanese IP holders, and ability to work with licensors and internal partners to push projects through.
  • Demonstrated track record delivering impactful deals and winning contested deal points.
  • Experience dissecting proposals and legal agreements surrounding IP.
  • Native Japanese language skills (reading/speaking/writing).
  • Business-level English skills (reading/speaking/writing).
  • Experience applying analytics to grow our overall customer base through a broad gaming slate featuring targeted IPs.

Two in-person days per week. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the company-wide days for ALL team members to be in the office, and individuals may choose to come in more if the please.
