Printpack is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III in Atlanta, GA. The Mechanical Engineer III will have full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. Assignments can also be developed by this individual to meet complex needs arising from problems or opportunities across multiple dimensions and disciplines. This level maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside their organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters across fields. Beyond technical contributions, this individual will regularly interface with the Engineering Leadership Team and help lead the department and set policy.
This position reports to the Manager, Manufacturing Technology and Facilities Development. This position will frequently lead projects or initiatives with multiple people reporting into this role on an ad hoc basis. Depending on business conditions, this person may have a direct report or two.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leader: Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs several large and important projects or a project (or interrelated projects) of major scope and importance, typically in the $15-20MM range, typically involving equipment and/or construction

  • Responsible for the engineering function of a program segment of interrelated project of significant complexity and scope.

  • Technical Expert:  Serves as the technical expert for the organization across multiple technology areas in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for an assigned area of responsibility (i.e. subject matter, function, type of facility or equipment, or product).

  • Resource: Keeps abreast of new scientific methods, developments, systems, equipment, and techniques affecting their organization to recommend changes in emphasis of programs or new programs warranted by such developments.

  • Mentor less experienced engineers in project, construction, and technical leadership.

  • Engaging: Interacts with plant associates at multiple levels at each stage of a project or initiative to gather data, understand operations methods, gather design input, obtain buy-in for solutions, and get help to optimize systems. Influencing at all levels of the organization is a critical skill.

  • Organized:  Frequently organizes and reviews the work of a group of engineers and technicians (project team).

  • Analytical:  Evaluate the progress of the group and the results obtained and recommend major changes to achieve overall objectives.

  • Team Player:  As an individual staff specialist, will often be assisted on individual projects by other engineers or technicians.

  • Collaborates with ELT to help set direction for the engineering department.

  • Planner:  Determine OPM’s, design guidelines, and other procedures for the department to follow.

Job Requirements:Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent plus appropriate continuing education.

  • PMP (Project Management Professional certification) is required.

  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering exam passed) or EIT (Engineer in Training) expected. PE (Professional Engineer license) is preferred.


Experience:

  • Typically, this individual would have 17+ years of applicable engineering experience.

  • This person will have demonstrated success executing and coordinating some of the largest projects (or interrelated projects), typically $15-20MM+.

  • Experience would also include independent leadership of technical innovations and highly challenging technical issues.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of and experience with a broad range of engineering principles and the ability to quickly apply this knowledge to novel and unfamiliar problems or technologies.

  • Can evaluate and determine strengths and weaknesses of equipment technologies, associate skills, and methods, systems designs, facilities designs, construction methods, and management systems, and can provide leadership to enhance the company’s manufacturing infrastructure and engineering standard practices.


Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is required to various facilities to support projects 40% per year.

  • Some international travel is required. Some weekend travel may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to use of Personal Protective Equipment, ladders, noise above 80 dB, handling objects weighing up to 50 lb., solvent fumes, and inks.

Work Conditions:

  • The majority of tasks will be performed in an office environment while sitting at a workstation.

  • When working in the field, the incumbent may be required to work on the plant floor, make long walks to review existing conditions, take measurements, etc.

  • The position is typically a Monday-Friday position, except for working in plants or supporting projects which may result in longer hours for periods of time.
