About the Position

We are seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering to join our growing Professional Design Services team in Peachtree Corners, GA. The ideal candidate possesses 15+yrs years of related experience, including leading a team in an MEP design engineering environment. The successful candidate will partner across disciplines and company verticals to grow workload with clients and projects, and develop and grow the team. The candidate will add value to the organization by mentoring less experienced professional Engineers, while supporting/leading a range of multidisciplinary projects. The successful candidate would also interface with clients and support proposal development as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead Mechanical Engineering team composed of engineers, technical directors and supervisors.
  • Oversee overall technical work to ensure quality deliverables for clients.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to help build overall technical acumen of the team.
  • Partner with project management and department leadership in proposal development and client management.
  • Identifies need for additional manpower and coordinates with Human Resources; interviews and select new personnel.
  • Coordinates the work experience of co-op and intern students assigned to department.
  • Responsible for employee performance review 2x annually and salary review.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reviewing annually employee performance continuously and for handling employee issues appropriately.
  • Assists the Senior Engineer/Architect or Project Manager in monitoring and controlling scope of work, budget of man-hours, schedule of activities and technical quality of the discipline’s work on the project.
  • Works with on budget and forecasting.
  • Responsible for managing utilization goals. 
  • Works with Architects/Engineers to ensure that project budgets are met.  Adjusts work plan to keep projects in budget.
  • Consults with HR before all hiring and termination actions.
  • Assists Marketing in preparing reports, proposals and presentations and visits prospective clients.
  • Assists the Senior Architect/Engineer or Project Manager in developing the conceptual design to meet the client’s requirements.
  • May manage multiple projects as needed.
  • Reviews the work at appropriate milestones to ensure the technical quality while maintaining an efficient design process.
  • Provides technical quality control (TQC) review as required and discusses comments with Senior Engineer/Architect or Project Manager.
  • Mentors and assists department in meeting technical quality standards.
  • Assists the Senior Engineer/Architect or Project Manager in the production of the technical documents when appropriate.
  • Evaluates the strengths and weakness of the disciplines and establish a plan to maintain the appropriate level of technical expertise to meet the requirements of each project.
  • Develops and leads training program that strengthens the areas of technical expertise needed to pursue the market goals of the firm.
  • Leads the discipline in developing and maintaining efficient design standards and procedures, including master details and specifications.
  • Utilizes strong people management and communication skills.
  • May be required to work after typical hours as project requirements and company needs dictate.
  • Develops and maintains positive customer and client relationships to foster repeat business.
  • Updates and maintains body of knowledge related to training, degree or job responsibilities.
  • Completes assigned work on time and within budget.
  • Adheres to and enforces company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar subject (Advanced Degree, such as Masters or PhD, is preferred)
  • PE is required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Proven track record of project delivery
  • Strong Technical knowledge and knowhow
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, positive attitude, multi-task, and self-motivated to produce high quality work
  • Ability and desire to learn and grow professionally

Additional Information
 

Many factors are considered when determining compensation at Pond, including scope and level of position, geographic location, candidate skill, knowledge and experience. Starting base pay may vary depending on these factors. We anticipate filling this position as a Director of Mechanical Engineering with a salary range of $117,400.00 - $189,500.00 .
