As a Mechanical Design Intern you will join our Mechatronics & Design Team to collaborate with our engineering team onsite in our Gardena, CA office to support the design process from concept to implementation while learning and contributing to the engineering team's objectives in a collaborative environment.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Supporting engineers and designers in creating, modifying, and refining mechanical designs using SOLIDWORKS
  • Creating 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components or systems based on specifications provided by the engineering team
  • Assisting in the development and testing of prototypes, which may involve assembling components, conducting measurements, and documenting results
  • Collaborate cross functionally with internal teams to improve product designs
  • Develop and/or review designs
  • Prototype hardware considering design for manufacturability (DFM) using 3D Printing and/or CNC machines where appropriate

Export Control Requirements

In order to comply with the export regulations of the United States Government, it is required that the applicant must fall under one of the following categories: (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident (i.e. current green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158.

Minimum Quals

  • Must be able to support at least 20 hours onsite in Gardena, CA beginning Winter 2025
  • Currently pursuing or have a BS degree in mechanical engineering, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years experience designing within SOLIDWORKS
  • 1-2 years experience working with 3D Printers
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, and development of 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Proven track record of strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and customers
  • Ability to solve problems effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Must meet export control requirements in the United States and maintain ongoing work authorization beginning at the time of hire through the entirety of employment.

Preferred Quals

  • Experience in rapid prototyping
  • Experience reviewing BOMs for completeness to support inventory management and system deployment 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes; manual machining, CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, plastic 3D prototyping
  • Experience with industrial robots and 6 DOF robotic arms
  • Familiar with industrial facilities and equipment

Compensation for this position includes the base hourly range of $20-$25/hr USD.
