What you will do
Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart and sustainable building technologies, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer for our Building Automation and Controls division in Glendale, WI. In this on-site role, you will support the design and development of advanced building control products – including BAS controllers, actuators, valves, sensors, thermostats, and refrigeration control devices – from concept through production. You will work under the guidance of mechanical engineers to create detailed mechanical designs and documentation packages for New Product Introduction (NPI), while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure our products meet high standards of quality and performance. This position plays a key role in bringing innovative, energy-efficient building automation solutions to market!
How you will do it

Perform detailed mechanical design of components and assemblies under the direction of lead mechanical engineers. This includes creating 3D CAD models and precise 2D drawings for parts and assemblies, applying sound mechanical design principles and GD&T practices.

Prepare complete documentation packages for new products as part of the NPI process, including drawings, BOMs, and product specifications.

Process and implement all Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) required to release new products into manufacturing. Coordinate changes in the PLM system.

Collaborate with electrical engineers, firmware developers, and manufacturing engineers to ensure design integration and manufacturability.

Work with engineers to build and evaluate prototypes of new designs, supporting testing for fit, function, and reliability.

Contribute to continuous improvement in the mechanical design process and mentor junior designers.
What you will need
Required
-
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting/Design, or a related field.

7+ years of experience in mechanical drafting and design.

Strong mechanical aptitude with understanding of mechanical design principles and GD&T.

Proficiency with CAD tools such as PTC Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.

Hands-on experience with PLM systems such as Windchill or SAP.

Experience in documenting and processing ECNs.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting/Design, or a related field.
Preferred
-
Experience in the building automation, HVAC, or industrial controls industry.

Familiarity with standards and regulations for industrial control devices and HVAC equipment.

Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes like injection molding and sheet metal fabrication.
