Job Responsibilities:
Objectives
To lead, direct, and support Materials Team Members safely and efficiently, to coordinate and communicate with other departments, follow safe work methods, and to conform to the Employee's Charter principles and plant standards.
Job Responsibilities

  • Help develop a team that can safely meet the business's needs.
  • Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  • Follows and supports BGM's and Magna's operating principles
  • Ensure daily pre-shift inspections are completed and conduct planned inspection audits on each shift.
  • Routinely make visual inspections of emergency evacuation routes correcting any safety concerns immediately.
  • Immediately attend to all accidents and injuries and initiate the accident and injury investigation program, while following up to ensure procedure implementation and completion.
  • Conduct weekly safety talks in pre-shift meetings and ensure team members sign safety training roster.
  • Coordinate and assign job responsibility for material handlers.
  • Maintain open communication and provide continued support with other departments with any changes, problems, or special projects.
  • Support completion and maintain team member performance reviews.
  • Initiate corrective actions as required.
  • Maintain equipment with scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Provide training and monitor material handlers to supply quality material to production lines.
  • Provide support to the materials department planners and coordinators.
  • Provide safety, quality, production and issues during pre-shift meetings.
  • Support the Area and Department Leaders.
  • Maintain flow rack identification on the floor as well as locations for cards. Maintain min-max in CMS.
  • Correction of any loading errors in the line physically and in the system.
  • Maintain lines running all the time with zero downtime due to waiting on parts.
  • Communicate issues to Area Leader or Department Manager.
  • Recommends proposals for improving products, processes, systems and work environment through the continuous improvement process and encourages employees to participate in the process as well.
  • Leads by example to other employees by attendance and good work performance and by displaying positive behaviors.
  • Supports efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey.
  • Materials Team Leaders must have the ability to lead up to 15 material handlers and be the first point of contact in management for day to day operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education preferred, or related experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Preferred 1 year of leadership experience.
  • Operate standard office equipment preferred
  • Ability to obtain a forklift license and drive tuggers.
  • Ability to use tablet devices, scanners and printers for barcode labels.
  • Must have good organizational skills
  • Must exhibit high integrity and honesty.
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately present information and respond to questions from various groups.
  • Ability to define problems collect date, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
