What we are looking for:

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, the Managing Director is responsible for identifying and developing business opportunities for Fiera Private Debt in order to achieve financial objectives and ensure the full growth potential of the firm. The Managing Director will be responsible for loan origination, the initial screening of new financing opportunities, the preparation of credit committee submissions, closings, ongoing portfolio management and loan monitoring.

The candidate must be a motivated self-starter who is well-organized with a proven track record in business development, risk assessment and portfolio management. Experience in analyzing and underwriting credit combined with strong financial skills is vital. Candidates must also possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Your responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements business development strategies targeting loan/investment opportunities that meet the firm’s overall strategies and business plan;
  • Targets new partners and new markets by being the highly visible representative of Fiera Private Debt in the marketplace to enhance the network of referral sources and prospects consistent with the desired objectives;
  • Works closely with the Senior Managing Director to analyze and select suitable lending opportunities and to negotiate and structure customized financing solutions for corporate borrowers across a broad range of industries;
  • Leads the due diligence process and preparation of credit committee presentations;
  • Leads the portfolio management process (portfolio analysis, loan tracking, liaising with borrowers), including detailed financial monitoring, and making appropriate recommendations;
  • Prepare internal memorandums regarding all transaction amendments, when required, on existing loans
  • Where applicable, manage direct reports in terms of coaching, mentoring and performance management
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Private Debt team and support junior staff in their professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must have requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Undergraduate degree in business or finance
  • Minimum ten (10) years related experience in the Canadian debt market with a strong background in loan origination, credit assessment, transaction structuring and documentation
  • Proven track record of business development and transaction execution;
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial vision with creative problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to detail with an ability to prioritize and make decisions in a timely matter
  • Strong financial analysis and negotiation skills;
  • Team player with experience in mentoring and developing junior staff
  • Professional designation an asset, e.g., CFA, CPA
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Travel for market coverage, deal-related due diligence and portfolio management is required
