Job Description

Old Mutual Botswana is a member of the Old Mutual Group. We offer a wide range of short-term and long-term insurance services in Botswana with branches in Gaborone and Francistown. Our products provide insurance services to personal, commercial and corporate clients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic direction of the overall Short-term business and assuring execution of the key strategic projects to optimise operations and assure the promises we make to our customers and their key stakeholders are fulfilled

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Develop the overall company strategy and execute the strategy through the executive heads.
  • Create a sustainable company economic model that incorporates the regulatory framework and is based on delivering products that are relevant to customer needs and competitive in the marketplace.
  • Develop corporate, commercial and retail segment strategies- and a channel distribution strategy for agents and corporate brokers.
  • Translate these strategies into relevant operational structures and processes while ensuring a wider fit into the overall group companies.
  • Develop the overall distribution growth strategy and set aggressive performance targets for the different channels to drive sales and improve operating efficiencies.
  • Set competitive performance targets for the different channels that result in increased sales and improved operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure the financial viability of all segments in the Short-term Company through meeting the business plan.
  • Ensure efficient operations that deliver customer satisfaction and retention. Ensure execution of new business initiatives that deliver new sources of customers and revenue.
  • Analyse risks and come up with strategies for managing them and ensuring that the assets, solvency and liquidity of the Short-term Company are adequately safeguarded and maintained.
  • Ensure capable management succession as well as progressive employee training and development programs.
  • Continue to drive the company’s Citizen Empowerment Program.
  • Continue to drive the company’s actuarial, finance and specialist skills development program.
  • Stakeholder management through the Old Mutual group and with key external stakeholders.
  • Drive the company’s automation, robotics and digital transformation program, initiatives and projects.
  • Responsible for fostering a culture that promotes customer focused ethical practices, a positive work climate and high performance – enabling the business to attract, retain and motivate a diverse group of employees.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A relevant business degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ insurance or financial services experience at an executive level.
  • Dealing with Boards or serving on a substantive board will be an added advantage.
  • Previous experience in a Chief Operations or Managing Director role will be an added advantage.
  • Sales and Distribution experience is important.
