Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous mobility solution for cities and safely deploy such a robotaxi solution. Zoox’s System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team is responsible for constructing the safety case for each milestone. We play a foundational role for the success of the company. As a manager of systems engineers at Zoox, you will be working with members of the system safety and software development teams to design, develop, and deploy systems that enable and support autonomous driving. You are responsible for ensuring these systems are developed within a process that results in end-to-end traceability and the achievement of both system safety targets and product requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, manage, and grow a team of Systems Engineers who have expertise on the autonomous driving system safety case.
- Contribute to the definition, development, and evolution of the Safety Case of Zoox technology ahead of every development milestone, in close collaboration with cross-functional teams - in particular the AI software team who develops the autonomous driving software.
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams to continuously identify opportunities to improve, adapt, and apply the System Safety engineering process to guide and ensure the safe deployment of Level 5 autonomous driving technology.
- Perform hazard analysis using System-theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to identify potential causes of safety issues that may affect the safety of autonomous driving in various Operational Design Domains.
- Use STPA outputs to inform test scenarios and coverage.
- Perform probabilistic risk assessment to quantify the safety risk associated with autonomous driving
- Identify and manage safety requirements where applicable.
- Ensure end-to-end traceability and produce a closed-loop Safety Case.
