The Opportunity:
As the manager of IT Data Protection Services, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing, managing, and monitoring multiple enterprise protective solutions that safeguard Velera’s data assets from damage, corruption or loss, and ensures that data is readily available to users through backup, immutable images, recovery, applicable encryption, and proper governance and controls. They collaborate with other departments to establish effective backup schedules and procedures and ensure regular testing of these backups are conducted. As part of the overall IT DR/BC program, this guarantee of service could span from something as simple as recovering a single file, to immutable multi-system restorations following a ransomware attack.
Additionally, the incumbent will manage Velera’s internal and external certificate infrastructures and certificate orchestration platform. Key to success in this responsibility will be ensuring that this critical service is properly managed to guarantee reliable and timely issuance and renewals, that the platforms are secure, up-to-date, conform in design and security to industry best practices and standards, and that its services and certificates are available at all times to prevent business interruptions and/or downtime.
Day in the Life:
- Define and support the enterprise data backup and recovery strategy.
- Manage Velera’s file-level data encryption solution.
- Total oversight of Velera’s internal and external certificate service infrastructures.
- Implement and maintain a certificate key store solution (HSM).
- Manage, administer, document and support Velera’s certificate management solution.
- Monitor, report, and act on events from the system and file monitoring and auditing solution.
- Provide direction and leadership to staff; guide, coach, mentor and develop staff ensuring compliance with processes and procedures.
- Provide best-practices technical direction and assistance to staff to guide solutions and resolve technical issues and challenges.
- Handle interviewing, hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, compensation, counseling and termination of staff.
- Develop and maintain staff by applying the necessary training and leadership that will allow internal growth and advancement.
- Direct staff, to ensure that all duties are performed according to department performance standards.
- Lead by example, emulating, incorporating, and supporting Velera’s core values in every interaction.
- Perform other related duties as required to competently support this role.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in MIS, or a Computer Science related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in information technology required.
- Information technology or related industry certification highly preferred in at least one of the following: Comp TIA: Network+ or Security+ , CCSP, or CISSP.
- Minimum five (5) years of increasing responsibility and experience in an IT administration or security role with direct hands-on administering with enterprise certificate services, data backup practices and methodologies.
- Advanced to expert understanding of certificate services, and PKI.
- Object oriented, immutable backup, experience a plus (esp. Rubrik)
- Certificate management orchestration via Venafi a big plus
- Backup and restoration methodologies required.
- Experience with Data Encryption at rest via CipherTrust
- Experience using an HSM for certificate key management
- Experience withNetwrix or similar enterprise systems auditing platform
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as lead of the End Point Services team with strong initiative to meet or exceed job expectations.
