A Day in the LifeMedtronic Operations in Kerkrade is the manufacturing location for Medtronic in The Netherlands, specialized in the manufacturing assembly of medical devices, including customized perfusion packs used during surgical procedures, thereby serving more than 250,000 patients worldwide each year. We are transforming to a High-Performance Culture, promoting ownership and bold acting and driving Excellence in Operations. As part of this transformation, we are combining our value chain "enabling" functions - Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance & Facility Services and Operational Excellence - into a new multidisciplinary support function and attracting additional talent.
The Manager Engineering, Operational Excellence & EHS is a mid-career senior engineering role with the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the transformation of our organisation. Your demonstrated leadership talents will support you in building, leading and developing a coherent team. You will be at the forefront of continuous improvement initiatives and you drive deployment of our Medtronic Performance System (MPS) throughout our on-site processes thereby optimizing reliability, productivity, throughput times, compliance and safety. You will report to the Site Leader and be part of the core leadership team. This is a fully on-site role based at our manufacturing operations site in Kerkrade, The Netherlands and requires a willingness to travel internationally (< 5%) to other Medtronic sites.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned
- Build a successful support team, consisting of Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance & Facility Services and Operational Excellence (9 FTE)
- Develop existing and new talents towards high performers
- Manage continuous improvement projects and facilitate workshops
- Foster effective Tier management, support problem-solving and improve the effectiveness of Gemba walks
- Deploy Maintenance Excellence and Safety Excellence
- Boost equipment reliability and capacity utilization
- Drive process automation and digitization and promote data analysis and visualization
- Take Process Validation to the next level, in line with applicable standards in the medical device arena
Required Knowledge and Experience
- 10 +years of multi-company working experience in several engineering and leadership roles in a manufacturing environment, ideally in industries like medical devices, pharma, food, automotive
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Well-developed coaching skills and comfortable with applying modern leadership techniques in small, diverse teams
- Broad understanding and vision about industrial engineering, production technology, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting, integrated quality and factory-safety
- Excellence in continuous improvement with proven track record of achieving outstanding performance in discrete manufacturing environments
- Demonstrated successes in managing change and transformation in a multidisciplinary organization, strong project leadership expertise and outstanding documenting-, reporting- and presenting skills
- Fluency in English (oral and writing), while Dutch language proficiency is a nice to have
- Preferably, a Lean Six Sigma black belt certification
