DevOps Manager
Role:
The Canada Engineering team is looking to add an experienced DevOps Manager to lead our DevOps team and drive our organization's DevOps strategy.
You will help implement automation, security, and speed of delivery solutions across Sun Life and act as a change agent for the adoption of a DevOps mindset. You will coach and mentor teams, IT leaders and business leaders and create and maintain ongoing learning journeys.
You will play a critical role in supporting and guiding DevOps Engineers and technical leaders to ensure that DevOps practices are employed globally. You will act as a role model by demonstrating the right mindset including a test and learn attitude, a bias for action, a passion to innovate and a willingness to learn.
You will lead a team of highly skilled and collaborative individuals and will lead new hire on-boarding, talent development, retention, and succession planning.
The ideal candidate will have approximately 10 years of experience in DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and team leadership.
Main Accountabilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Develop and implement DevOps best practices, methodologies, and processes across the organization.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows.
- Manage cloud infrastructure and services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to streamline software delivery processes.
- Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for production environments.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance optimization for all systems and applications.
- Manage incident response and resolution processes, ensuring minimal downtime and quick recovery.
- Stay current with emerging DevOps trends, tools, and technologies, and evaluate their potential for adoption.
- Develop and manage budgets for DevOps tools, infrastructure, and resources.
- Provide regular reports and presentations to senior management on DevOps initiatives and outcomes.

Qualifications / Skills:
- University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline
- 9+ Experience as release manager in both waterfall and Agile/DevOps project lifecycles.
- Experience with automation tools and solutions for the release management function.
- Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) best practices
- 4+ years of experience in managing mid size teams in a multi location enterprise.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance potentially conflicting priorities, and to track and monitor numerous commitments and activities.
- Strong facilitation skills with experience in undertaking liaison and consultations with multiple stakeholders and interest groups.
- Experience in liaising with clients/stakeholders where client service was a key focus to responding to queries, issues & risk management.
- Has knowledge of product development and project life-cycle management
- Knowledge of ITIL standards and best practices
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must

- Knowledge of the financial and insurance industry
- Agile experience
- Experience with DevOps tools for .NET and Java applications: Bitbucket, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Artifactory, Xray, Burp Suite, SonarQube, CDD, Ansible, MS Teams, Jira Agile, Terraform, Cloud Forms
- Experience with Mainframe DevOps tools (IBMs AD, IBM IDz)
