Position Overview 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Community Engagement Lead to engage local healthcare providers, community organizations, and patient advocacy groups across Cape Breton and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a senior pharmaceutical sales background and be accustomed to working directly with physicians to review patient eligibility for clinical trials and new treatments. This role will require a strong sales-driven mindset to meet monthly referral targets, as well as the ability to manage relationships, plan local events, and travel extensively across Cape Breton and the mainland. 

 

The Manager, Community Engagement will play a pivotal role in ensuring equitable access to clinical trials, increasing enrollment, and educating the local community on research opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about improving the future of medicine for Cape Bretoners, specifically through better representation of Nova Scotians in clinical trial participation. By increasing participation in clinical trials, you will help pave the way for advancements in treatment options that reflect the diverse needs of our communities.   


What You'll Be Working On 

Duties include but not limited to: 


Provider Engagement and Referral Management:  

Build and maintain relationships with local healthcare providers and their staff

Engage physicians to drive patient referrals and ensure eligibility for clinical trials

Review EMRs to identify potential clinical trial candidates 

 

Community Outreach and Education: 

Act as a liaison between the research site and local community organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholders

Plan and execute educational events (in-person and virtual) to raise awareness of clinical trial opportunities and promote equity in participation

Develop awareness campaigns to overcome misconceptions and encourage community involvement

 

Sales and Referral Target Achievement

Utilize a sales-driven approach to meet or exceed monthly referral targets

Track and report on referral metrics and work to optimize outreach strategies to maximize trial enrollment


Team Leadership and Management:

Lead and manage a small team (as the program grows) to support community engagement efforts

Collaborate and support team members to ensure cohesive execution of strategies


Meetings and Reporting:

Participate in weekly meetings with the Country Manager and Site Manager to set and review referral targets and progress

Provide detailed updates on activity, achievements, challenges, and strategies for continued growth


Travel and Relationship Building:

Travel extensively across Cape Breton and onto the mainland to build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers and community leaders

Attend local events and conferences to increase awareness and engagement in clinical trial participation

Scope of Role:

  • Autonomy of Role: ​Work is performed under limited supervision​ 
  • Number of Direct Reports: 1 to start 
  • Role(s) Managing: Lead providing management of a similar role in other communities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking 20%
  • Standing 20%
  • Sitting 20%
  • Lifting 10% (limited materials such as tabling items, materials into physicians offices, etc.)
  • Driving 30%

Travel Requirements:

  • This role requires up to 50% travel requirements further explained below. Length of travel will depend upon study requirements, staff needs, and company initiatives
  • Type of travel required: ​Regional (within 100 miles)​ 

What You Bring (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Senior-level experience in pharmaceutical sales (or similar), with a proven track record of success working directly with physicians and healthcare providers preferred
  • Experience in reviewing patient eligibility for new treatments and clinical trials and with common EMR’s in Canada (ex ACCURO). 
  • Strong sales mindset, with a history of meeting or exceeding targets and objectives
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders effectively
  • Experience in event planning and executing outreach campaigns
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences 
  • Proficiency on collaborating with multi-functional teams through software, such as SalesForce, Slack, Microsoft Office, CTMS, and more
  • Strong sales mindset, with a history of meeting or exceeding targets and objectives
  • Comfortable with significant travel across Cape Breton and onto the mainland
  • Proficiency in using EMRs to identify potential clinical trial candidates

Certifications/Licenses, Education, and Experience:

  • A relevant diploma or degree in healthcare, life sciences, business, or a related field
  • Experience working in clinical settings, including familiarity with clinical trials, healthcare provider interactions, and patient eligibility assessments
  • Senior-level experience in pharmaceutical sales (or equivalent), with a proven track record of success working directly with physicians and healthcare providers
